Swap Tether (USDT) to Monero (XMR)
USDT to XMR is how many people buy Monero now that most big exchanges have dropped it. Send USDT on TRC20, ERC20 or BEP20 and receive XMR at your own Monero address at a floating rate — no account for a standard swap.
Which USDT network to send from
USDT exists on several blockchains. The network fee is always paid in the network's native coin (TRX, ETH, BNB or SOL), never in USDT itself. The rule that matters: the network must match what the wallet or service on the other side supports.
| Network | Address | Gas | Speed | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TRC20 TRON | starts with T (34 characters) | paid in TRX via Energy/Bandwidth — a wallet with zero TRX usually cannot send USDT at all | 3-second blocks | receiving on most CEX and P2P desks; the default USDT rail in many regions |
| ERC20 Ethereum | 0x… (42 characters) | paid in ETH; the most expensive option when the network is busy | 12-second blocks | DeFi on Ethereum, hardware-wallet cold storage, large amounts |
| BEP20 BNB Smart Chain | 0x… — identical format to ERC20 | paid in BNB; usually low | sub-second to ~1-second blocks | wallets that already hold BNB for gas, BSC DeFi |
Exact fees move with network load — the widget always shows the current amount you will receive.
USDT to XMR: what matters
Buying XMR with USDT is the shortest route into Monero from the dollar side, but only on the networks the gateway serves: TRC20, ERC20 and BEP20. USDT on Solana is not accepted for Monero pairs, so if that is where your dollars sit, move them first or swap through BTC. Send from the network you picked in the widget, keep native gas (TRX, ETH or BNB) in the sending wallet, and paste a fresh Monero subaddress. The XMR arrives as a locked balance and becomes spendable about 20 minutes later.
USDT is a centrally issued token: Tether can freeze addresses on request of law enforcement. That is a property of USDT itself, not of the exchange you use.
Monero hides senders, receivers and amounts on its own chain: ring signatures (16 members since the August 2022 upgrade), one-time stealth addresses and RingCT. That privacy covers only the Monero leg — the coin you swap from stays as visible as it always was.
Tether vs Monero: the networks side by side
| USDT | XMR | |
|---|---|---|
| Network | multi-chain stablecoin issued by Tether | Monero mainnet (proof of work, RandomX); private by default |
| Blocks / confirmation | depends on the network you pick | a block about every 2 minutes; received XMR stays locked for 10 blocks (about 20 minutes) before it can be spent |
| Address format | depends on the network you pick | 95 characters: primary address starts with 4, subaddresses with 8; an integrated address is 106 characters and starts with 4 |
| Network fee | always paid in the network's native coin (TRX, ETH, BNB or SOL), never in USDT itself | set by the wallet from the transaction size and the network's dynamic fee; usually cents |
| Memo / tag | not used | not needed to receive |
| Wallets | Trust Wallet, TronLink (TRC20), MetaMask (ERC20/BEP20), Phantom (SOL) | Feather, Cake Wallet, Monero GUI, Monerujo |
How to swap USDT to XMR, step by step
- 1
Select USDT → XMR in the widget and enter the amount. It shows the current minimum and the XMR you will receive. This pair is float-rate only, with every fee already included in the amount you receive.
- 2
Pick the network your USDT is on (TRC20, ERC20, BEP20). You must send from that exact network, and gas is paid in its native coin.
- 3
Paste your XMR address — 95 characters: primary address starts with 4, subaddresses with 8; an integrated address is 106 characters and starts with 4. Copy it from your wallet (Feather, Cake Wallet, Monero GUI, Monerujo) and compare the first and last characters.
- 4
Create the order and send exactly the shown amount of USDT to the deposit address. Bookmark the order link — it shows the live status.
- 5
Wait for confirmations: depends on the network you pick. The liquidity provider sets how many are required; the order page shows the live count.
- 6
XMR is sent to your address automatically. On the receiving side: a block about every 2 minutes; received XMR stays locked for 10 blocks (about 20 minutes) before it can be spent. The transaction hash appears on the order page.
Common USDT → XMR mistakes
ERC20 and BEP20 addresses look identical (0x…). If the receiving service only supports one of them, funds sent on the other network may be lost or require a paid manual recovery.
Your wallet needs the native coin for gas: TRX on TRON, ETH on Ethereum, BNB on BSC, SOL on Solana.
Check the contract: real USDT on TRON is TR7NHqjeKQxGTCi8q8ZY4pL8otSzgjLj6t, on Ethereum 0xdAC17F958D2ee523a2206206994597C13D831ec7. Fake 'USDT' tokens airdropped to wallets are worthless.
Freshly received XMR — and the change from your own last payment — is locked for 10 blocks. If the wallet says the balance is locked, wait about 20 minutes; nothing is wrong.
Do not look for a separate payment ID field. Long payment IDs were removed from Monero in 2019 (v0.15); for your own wallet a subaddress is enough, and an integrated address must be pasted whole.
KOT.CASH vs a centralised exchange for USDT → XMR
| KOT.CASH | Centralised exchange | |
|---|---|---|
| Account & KYC | No sign-up; no ID documents for standard swaps | Account required; regulated exchanges must verify identity |
| Steps | One order: send USDT, receive XMR at your own address | Deposit USDT → wait for credit → trade → request XMR withdrawal |
| Custody | Funds pass through the service only for the swap | Funds sit in the exchange account until you withdraw |
| Withdrawal | Automatic once the deposit is confirmed | Withdrawal fee; limits, holds or extra checks are possible |
| Cost | Float rate only; service fee, gateway costs and payout network fee are already in the amount you receive | Trading fee, spread and withdrawal fee — vary by exchange and volume |
| Where a CEX is better | No fiat, limit orders or margin — crypto-to-crypto swaps only | Fiat on/off-ramp, limit orders, very large volumes |
This compares how the processes work, not any specific exchange. Exchange tariffs change — check them on the platform itself.
USDT to XMR: questions people ask
How much XMR will 100 USDT buy?
Divide 100 by the XMR price and allow for the gateway's fees; the rate table above uses the live market price, and the widget gives the exact XMR amount with every fee included.
Which USDT network is best for buying XMR?
The one your USDT is already on, as long as it is TRC20, ERC20 or BEP20 — moving USDT between chains first only adds a fee. ERC20 has the highest gas when Ethereum is busy.
Do I need a Monero wallet before the swap?
Yes. Create it first (Feather, Cake Wallet, Monero GUI or Monerujo), write down the seed and copy a subaddress. The exchange never needs your view key or seed.
How long do USDT confirmations take?
Depends on the network you pick. The liquidity provider decides how many confirmations are required; the order page shows the live count.
Which USDT networks can I pay with?
TRC20 (TRON), ERC20 (Ethereum) and BEP20 (BNB Smart Chain). USDT on Solana is not accepted for Monero pairs.
Is there a fixed rate for USDT to XMR?
No, Monero pairs are float-only; the widget shows the XMR amount with all fees included.
Do I need to register?
No, only your Monero address. A high-risk deposit can be held under the AML policy.
Is the minimum the same on every USDT network?
The widget shows the current minimum for the network you pick. Check it before sending: an amount below the minimum cannot be paid out automatically.
