Monero address types
Testnet and stagenet addresses (starting with 9, A, 5, 7 and similar) are recognised and flagged, since a mainnet wallet cannot pay them. If the generator says the checksum is wrong, a character was lost or changed — Monero addresses are long, so copy them, never retype them.
- Primary (standard) address — starts with 4, 95 characters. The main address of your wallet.
- Subaddress — starts with 8, 95 characters. Your wallet can create as many as you like; all of them feed the same balance.
- Integrated address — starts with 4, 106 characters, with a short payment ID built in. Mostly used by exchanges and older merchant setups; subaddresses have largely replaced it.
The monero: URI and tx_amount
Monero has its own URI scheme that the major wallets understand — Cake Wallet, Monerujo, Feather, Stack Wallet and the official GUI among them. The parameters differ from Bitcoin's:
monero:<address>
monero:<address>?tx_amount=0.25&recipient_name=Print%20Shop&tx_description=Order%2031tx_amount is in XMR. Monero divides a coin into 10^12 piconero, so up to 12 decimals are allowed — far more than you will ever need for a price. The «Label» field in the form becomes recipient_name, and «Message» becomes tx_description. Both stay in the QR and in the payer's wallet; they are not written to the blockchain.
Subaddresses: one per payer
The most useful habit for receiving Monero is to give every customer, client or donation channel its own subaddress. Your wallet shows which subaddress each payment arrived on, so you know who paid without asking for a memo. And two people who compare the codes you gave them cannot tell that both belong to the same wallet.
That makes the generator handy for a small business: create a subaddress for an order, make a QR with tx_amount and the order number in the description, and send the PNG. For a permanent donation sign, use a dedicated subaddress without an amount — and do not reuse it elsewhere, so the sign cannot be linked to your other public profiles.
Print, caption and practical tips
- PNG with caption: the coin, the amount and a shortened address appear under the code. Monero addresses are long, so the first and last characters in the caption are the quickest visual check.
- SVG for print: stickers, menus, a card at a market stall. A 95-character address makes a fairly dense QR — print it at least 3–4 cm wide and keep a white margin.
- Confirmation time: received XMR becomes spendable after 10 blocks, about 20 minutes. For in-person sales, many merchants accept the payment once it appears in the wallet and treat the lock as normal.
- Price: if you price in fiat, calculate the XMR amount right before creating the QR and state how long it is valid.
Privacy notes and common mistakes
On the Monero blockchain an outside observer cannot see which address received a payment or how much it holds, so publishing an address does not expose your balance the way it does on Bitcoin. What a public QR does reveal is a link: the same address shown in two places tells people those places belong to the same recipient. Separate subaddresses solve that.
- Do not share your view key to «prove» a payment unless you understand that it reveals all incoming transfers to that wallet.
- Do not put real names, phone numbers or addresses into recipient_name or tx_description: they are readable by anyone who scans the code.
- Do not send someone a QR for a primary address you have used publicly elsewhere if you want the payment unlinkable.
- Scan the downloaded image with your own wallet first — the generator never uploads the address, but only your wallet can confirm the code is right.
Frequently asked questions
+Does the Monero QR support an amount?
Yes. Switch to «Address + amount»; the generator adds tx_amount in XMR (up to 12 decimals) to the monero: link.
+Should I use a subaddress or my main address?
A subaddress for anything you share. It keeps payers apart in your wallet and prevents different places from being linked to one address.
+Is the description stored on the blockchain?
No. recipient_name and tx_description live in the QR and the payer's wallet only.
+Can I use an integrated address?
Yes, the generator accepts 106-character integrated addresses, but subaddresses are the more modern way to tell payments apart.
+How long until a Monero payment is spendable?
About 20 minutes: received funds are locked for 10 blocks of roughly two minutes each.
+Is the generator free and private?
It is free, needs no account, and builds the QR locally in your browser without sending the address anywhere.
Calculations run entirely in your browser; nothing you type is sent to KOT.CASH. Results are estimates for information only and are not financial, tax or legal advice.
