Obtain the receiving format before paying Litecoin
- Select the Bitcoin on-chain account
The provider snapshot for BTC lists the Bitcoin network. In a wallet that offers more than one payment method, obtain a receive instruction for that on-chain account. A request intended for another payment system should not be pasted into the address field on the assumption that any Bitcoin-labelled request describes the same destination type.
- Read what the copied string contains
A Bitcoin payment URI can contain an address as well as optional payment information. A QR scan may therefore produce a longer request rather than a bare receiving address. Check the receiving wallet’s own copy-address option and the exchange form’s instruction. Do not assume a label, note or requested amount embedded in a QR code will be interpreted by a field asking for an address.
- Check format support without editing the address
Bitcoin.org distinguishes wallet features such as Bech32 and Taproot support. This does not establish which address formats a particular payout route accepts. If the form rejects the destination, clarify compatibility with the recipient and exchange before paying. If the wallet offers another supported receiving format, obtain it through that wallet; changing a prefix by hand is not a conversion.
Four strings that should not be treated as interchangeable
| What you copied | What to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| A Bitcoin receiving address | It belongs to the intended account and network | Compare it with the final payout instruction |
| A bitcoin: payment URI | It may include more than an address | Obtain the format requested by the payout field |
| A Lightning request | It describes a different payment method | Request an on-chain instruction for this BTC route |
| An address from another account | Its display may still look valid | Return to the account you intend to fund |
A format check is not proof of account access
A string accepted by a form can still point to the wrong receiving account. Before you send LTC, compare the final address with the intended wallet’s own receive screen. If the receiver is an exchange account, use its current Bitcoin deposit instruction and check that deposits are enabled. Do not rely on an old screenshot or a saved contact merely because the characters still resemble a familiar Bitcoin format.
Keep the Litecoin funding reference and order number so that an inquiry can identify the payment you made. The later Bitcoin payout has its own transaction record. Check that record against the recipient rather than using the LTC transfer as proof that BTC reached the correct wallet. If you discover an address discrepancy before funding, resolve it first; an attractive receiving quote cannot establish ownership of the destination.
Getting a compatible Bitcoin receive instruction
- Can I fix a rejected Bitcoin address by changing bc1p to bc1q?
- No. Obtain a supported receiving instruction from the actual wallet or recipient. Address formats encode more than a cosmetic prefix, and acceptance by a form would not prove that a manually changed string belongs to your account.
- Can I use a Lightning invoice for the BTC payout?
- The provider snapshot identifies the BTC route as Bitcoin on-chain. Do not infer invoice support from a wallet’s Lightning feature or a general payment-URI specification. Obtain an on-chain receive instruction compatible with the actual payout route.
