Swap Litecoin (LTC) to Polkadot (DOT)
A UTXO coin in, a Substrate coin out: send LTC from any Litecoin wallet and receive DOT at your SS58 address. The slow part is the Litecoin side, which needs several 2.5-minute blocks.
Litecoin โ Polkadot: when it makes sense
LTC to DOT bridges two very different designs: Litecoin is a Bitcoin-style UTXO chain with 2.5-minute blocks, Polkadot is a Substrate chain with 6-second blocks and an account model. In practice the order waits on Litecoin confirmations, and then DOT lands quickly. If you send LTC from an exchange, check the withdrawal amount after its fee โ a short deposit is the most common reason such an order stalls.
Four times faster blocks than Bitcoin with similar UTXO mechanics โ LTC is a common 'cheap rail' for moving value.
Addresses on Polkadot parachains share the same key but a different prefix โ always copy the address shown for the Polkadot network.
Litecoin vs Polkadot: the networks side by side
| LTC | DOT | |
|---|---|---|
| Network | Litecoin mainnet (proof of work, Scrypt) | Polkadot (native DOT) |
| Blocks / confirmation | about 2.5 minutes per block | 6-second blocks with finality usually within a minute |
| Address format | ltc1โฆ (SegWit), Mโฆ or legacy Lโฆ | SS58 format starting with 1โฆ |
| Network fee | low; a fraction of a cent to a few cents | small, paid in DOT |
| Memo / tag | not used | not needed to receive |
| Wallets | Litecoin Core, Electrum-LTC, Trust Wallet, Exodus, Ledger | Nova Wallet, Talisman, SubWallet, Polkadot.js, Ledger |
KOT.CASH vs a centralised exchange for LTC โ DOT
| KOT.CASH | Centralised exchange | |
|---|---|---|
| Account & KYC | No sign-up; no ID documents for standard swaps | Account required; regulated exchanges must verify identity |
| Steps | One order: send LTC, receive DOT at your own address | Deposit LTC โ wait for credit โ trade โ request DOT withdrawal |
| Custody | Funds pass through the service only for the swap | Funds sit in the exchange account until you withdraw |
| Withdrawal | Automatic once the deposit is confirmed | Withdrawal fee; limits, holds or extra checks are possible |
| Cost | 1% float or 1.5% fixed + network fees; final amount shown upfront | Trading fee, spread and withdrawal fee โ vary by exchange and volume |
| Where a CEX is better | No fiat, limit orders or margin โ crypto-to-crypto swaps only | Fiat on/off-ramp, limit orders, very large volumes |
This compares how the processes work, not any specific exchange. Exchange tariffs change โ check them on the platform itself.
Step-by-step guides
How to swap LTC to DOT, step by step
- 1
Select LTC โ DOT in the widget and enter the amount. It shows the current minimum, the DOT you will receive and the rate type (1% float or 1.5% fixed) before anything is sent.
- 2
Paste your DOT address โ SS58 format starting with 1โฆ. Copy it from your wallet (Nova Wallet, Talisman, SubWallet, Polkadot.js, Ledger) and compare the first and last characters.
- 3
Create the order and send exactly the shown amount of LTC to the deposit address. Bookmark the order link โ it shows the live status.
- 4
Wait for confirmations: about 2.5 minutes per block. The liquidity provider sets how many are required; the order page shows the live count.
- 5
DOT is sent to your address automatically. On the receiving side: 6-second blocks with finality usually within a minute. The transaction hash appears on the order page.
Common LTC โ DOT mistakes
Send a regular transaction, not from an MWEB (ltcmweb1โฆ) private balance โ peg-outs from MWEB can be delayed.
Old 3โฆ P2SH addresses were re-mapped to Mโฆ years ago; if your wallet shows a 3โฆ LTC address, update the wallet.
Polkadot accounts have an existential deposit: if a balance drops below it, the account is reaped and the dust is lost. Leave a buffer or send the full balance on purpose.
Staked or nominated DOT has to be unbonded first; the unbonding period can last weeks โ your wallet shows the exact date.
LTC to DOT: questions people ask
What happens if I send less LTC than the order says?
On a float order the swap is recalculated for the amount that actually arrives, so you receive proportionally less DOT; below the minimum the order ends in a failed or refund status. Send the exact amount shown, and contact support with the order link if the status looks wrong.
Which Litecoin address type should I send from?
Any: ltc1, L or M addresses all work as the sending side. The deposit address is shown on the order page.
How long do LTC confirmations take?
About 2.5 minutes per block. The liquidity provider decides how many confirmations are required; the order page shows the live count.
How long will LTC to DOT take?
Mostly the Litecoin confirmations: the provider waits for several blocks of about 2.5 minutes each. The DOT payout then lands within a minute or two.
Do I need DOT already in my wallet?
No. But keep in mind the existential deposit: a Polkadot account must hold a minimum balance, so very small payouts may not be possible.
Can I send LTC from an exchange?
Yes. Make sure the exchange withdraws the full order amount after its own fee, otherwise the deposit arrives short.
Run the numbers first
LTC and DOT networks: confirmations and memo
Built from the liquidity provider's network list as of 2026-10-20. "Confirmations" is how many blocks the provider waits for before crediting a deposit; the order page shows the exact number for your order. If the memo column names a tag, a deposit without it cannot be matched automatically.
| Coin | Network | Send to us | Receive | Confirmations | Memo / tag |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| LTC | LTC | yes | yes | 6โ60 | not used |
| DOT | DOT | yes | yes | 15โ30 | not used |
Confirmations for 190 coins on every network are in the deposit confirmations lookup; coins that need a memo or tag are in the memo and tag checker.
