Memo and Destination Tag Checker

Some networks let one address serve thousands of users and tell them apart by a short extra field: a destination tag on XRP, a memo on Stellar, Cosmos, Hedera or EOS, a comment on TON. Forget it when sending to an exchange or a swap and the coins arrive at the right address but nobody knows whose they are. Type a ticker to check it, or scroll the list of every coin and network that uses such a field.

Rule of thumb: a memo or tag is needed when one address is shared by many users โ€” exchanges, custodians and swap services. Your own wallet address normally does not need one.

When a memo is required and when it is not

A memo or tag is required when the receiving address is shared โ€” an exchange deposit address, a custodial wallet, a swap service. The address gets the coins to the right place; the tag tells the service which account to credit.

When you receive to your own wallet (Xaman, Lobstr, Keplr, Tonkeeper and similar), the address is yours alone and no memo is needed. Some wallets still show an optional memo field โ€” leave it empty unless the recipient asked for one.

If you forgot the memo

  • Do not send the same amount again with the memo โ€” that only creates a second payment.
  • Find the transaction hash in your wallet or a block explorer.
  • Contact the receiving service's support with the hash, the amount, the time and your account or order ID. Most exchanges can recover a deposit without a memo manually, often for a fee and after some days.
  • If the deposit went to a swap order on KOT.CASH, write to support with the order link and the hash.

A memo is not a password and not secret. It is safe to share it with support.

Memo, tag, comment: the names differ

XRP calls it a Destination Tag and it is a number. Stellar, Cosmos-based chains, Hedera and EOS call it a memo, usually text or a number. TON calls it a comment. In the KOT.CASH order flow, when a deposit needs one, the order page shows it next to the deposit address โ€” copy both.

Frequently asked questions

+Does XRP need a destination tag?

When sending to an exchange or a swap deposit, yes โ€” the order page shows it. Sending to your own XRP wallet, no.

+Does USDT need a memo?

Not on TRON, Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain or Solana. USDT on the TON network uses a memo (comment) for shared deposit addresses.

+Does Bitcoin or Ethereum ever need a memo?

No. Bitcoin, Ethereum and EVM chains identify deposits by address alone.

+What happens if I add a memo that was not needed?

Usually nothing: the funds arrive normally. Some wallets will not let you add one at all.

+Can I receive a payout to an exchange that requires a memo?

The standard swap form has no payout memo field, so receive to your own wallet first. The Multi-Hop and Split Swap forms do have a memo field for the payout.

Calculations run entirely in your browser; nothing you type is sent to KOT.CASH. Results are estimates for information only and are not financial, tax or legal advice.
