ETH
XMR
Swap Ethereum (ETH) to Monero (XMR)
ETH to XMR moves value from a fully transparent smart-contract chain to a private payment coin. Send native ETH on Ethereum mainnet, paste your Monero address and receive XMR at a floating rate — no account for a standard swap.
Ethereum → Monero: when it makes sense
ETH to XMR moves value off a chain where every balance and transfer is public into one where they are not. Send native ETH on the network selected in the widget — not WETH or another token, which the deposit address will not credit automatically — and do it from a wallet you control so you can set a normal gas price. On the receiving side, paste a fresh Monero subaddress. The pair is float-only through a payment gateway, and the XMR you see in the widget already has every fee taken out.
ETH is also the gas token for every ERC20 transfer, so swapping all of your ETH away can leave tokens stuck in a wallet with no gas.
Monero hides senders, receivers and amounts on its own chain: ring signatures (16 members since the August 2022 upgrade), one-time stealth addresses and RingCT. That privacy covers only the Monero leg — the coin you swap from stays as visible as it always was.
Ethereum vs Monero: the networks side by side
| ETH | XMR | |
|---|---|---|
| Network | Ethereum mainnet (proof of stake) | Monero mainnet (proof of work, RandomX); private by default |
| Blocks / confirmation | 12-second slots; full finality after two epochs, about 13 minutes | a block about every 2 minutes; received XMR stays locked for 10 blocks (about 20 minutes) before it can be spent |
| Address format | 0x… (42 hex characters) | 95 characters: primary address starts with 4, subaddresses with 8; an integrated address is 106 characters and starts with 4 |
| Network fee | gas paid in ETH; varies with network demand, usually cheapest at weekends and night hours UTC | set by the wallet from the transaction size and the network's dynamic fee; usually cents |
| Memo / tag | not used | not needed to receive |
| Wallets | MetaMask, Rabby, Trust Wallet, Ledger, Trezor | Feather, Cake Wallet, Monero GUI, Monerujo |
KOT.CASH vs a centralised exchange for ETH → XMR
| KOT.CASH | Centralised exchange | |
|---|---|---|
| Account & KYC | No sign-up; no ID documents for standard swaps | Account required; regulated exchanges must verify identity |
| Steps | One order: send ETH, receive XMR at your own address | Deposit ETH → wait for credit → trade → request XMR withdrawal |
| Custody | Funds pass through the service only for the swap | Funds sit in the exchange account until you withdraw |
| Withdrawal | Automatic once the deposit is confirmed | Withdrawal fee; limits, holds or extra checks are possible |
| Cost | Float rate only; service fee, gateway costs and payout network fee are already in the amount you receive | Trading fee, spread and withdrawal fee — vary by exchange and volume |
| Where a CEX is better | No fiat, limit orders or margin — crypto-to-crypto swaps only | Fiat on/off-ramp, limit orders, very large volumes |
This compares how the processes work, not any specific exchange. Exchange tariffs change — check them on the platform itself.
Step-by-step guides
How to swap ETH to XMR, step by step
- 1
Select ETH → XMR in the widget and enter the amount. It shows the current minimum and the XMR you will receive. This pair is float-rate only, with every fee already included in the amount you receive.
- 2
Paste your XMR address — 95 characters: primary address starts with 4, subaddresses with 8; an integrated address is 106 characters and starts with 4. Copy it from your wallet (Feather, Cake Wallet, Monero GUI, Monerujo) and compare the first and last characters.
- 3
Create the order and send exactly the shown amount of ETH to the deposit address. Bookmark the order link — it shows the live status.
- 4
Wait for confirmations: 12-second slots; full finality after two epochs, about 13 minutes. The liquidity provider sets how many are required; the order page shows the live count.
- 5
XMR is sent to your address automatically. On the receiving side: a block about every 2 minutes; received XMR stays locked for 10 blocks (about 20 minutes) before it can be spent. The transaction hash appears on the order page.
Common ETH → XMR mistakes
The same 0x address exists on Arbitrum, Base, Optimism and BNB Chain. ETH sent from an L2 is not mainnet ETH — send from Ethereum mainnet only.
Leave some ETH for gas if you will move other tokens from the same wallet later.
Smart-contract wallets (Safe multisig, some smart accounts) send ETH via internal transactions; make sure the receiving side shows the transfer, or use a regular EOA wallet.
Freshly received XMR — and the change from your own last payment — is locked for 10 blocks. If the wallet says the balance is locked, wait about 20 minutes; nothing is wrong.
Do not look for a separate payment ID field. Long payment IDs were removed from Monero in 2019 (v0.15); for your own wallet a subaddress is enough, and an integrated address must be pasted whole.
ETH to XMR: questions people ask
How fast is ETH to XMR?
Ethereum produces a block every 12 seconds, so the deposit is usually seen within a minute or two; the order page shows when it is confirmed. After the payout, the XMR is locked in your wallet for 10 blocks (about 20 minutes).
Can I pay from a smart-contract wallet such as a Safe?
A plain transfer from a regular address is the safe option. Some contract wallets send ETH through an internal transaction, which a deposit address may not register automatically.
How long do ETH confirmations take?
12-second slots; full finality after two epochs, about 13 minutes. The liquidity provider decides how many confirmations are required; the order page shows the live count.
Can I send ETH from Arbitrum or Base?
Send ETH on the network selected in the widget. The page opens with Ethereum mainnet; if you pick another network, the widget tells you whether the pair is available there.
Is there a fixed rate for ETH to XMR?
No, Monero pairs are float-only; the widget shows the XMR amount with all fees included.
Do I need to register?
No, only your Monero address. A high-risk deposit can be held under the AML policy.
Can I send WETH or another token?
No. Only native ETH is accepted on this pair; tokens sent to the deposit address are not credited automatically.
