Why unbonding exists
A validator can be slashed for faults such as double-signing, and evidence may surface after the fact. Keeping stake bonded for a period after the request means the stake can still be slashed during that window. Cosmos-SDK chains typically use 21 days, Polkadot 28 days for nominators, and networks with epoch-based staking such as Solana and NEAR release stake at epoch boundaries, which takes a couple of days.
Not every network locks. Cardano delegation leaves ADA spendable at all times, Algorand and Hedera do not freeze coins for staking, and an Ethereum validator has no fixed period but waits in exit and withdrawal queues that depend on how many validators are leaving.
What the table shows
For each coin: the typical number of days from the unstake request to spendable coins, the date that gives when added to your request date, and a note on how the mechanism works. Where the period varies (Solana depends on where in the epoch you request, Avalanche uses a lock you choose upfront), a range is shown.
Exchanges and liquid-staking apps add their own rules on top: some return coins faster from their own liquidity, others add processing days. Liquid-staking tokens can usually be sold at once on the market, but at a price that may sit below the underlying coin while the queue is long.

Frequently asked questions
+How long does it take to unstake ATOM?
21 days. During that time the coins earn no rewards and cannot be moved.
+How long is the Polkadot unbonding period?
28 days for nominators on Polkadot (7 days on Kusama). Check the current value in your wallet, as it is a governance parameter.
+How fast can I unstake SOL?
Stake deactivates at the end of the current epoch, which lasts roughly 2โ3 days, so it is between a few hours and about 3 days.
+Is staked ADA locked?
No. Delegated ADA stays in your wallet and can be spent at any time; rewards stop for the epochs in which it is not delegated.
+How long does TRX unfreezing take?
Under Stake 2.0 unfrozen TRX can be withdrawn after 14 days.
