What to know about XRP
The XRP Ledger closes a ledger every 3–5 seconds and settles payments without mining, so an XRP deposit is final almost as soon as it is sent. Two ledger rules shape every XRP transfer. First, a new account has to receive the base reserve before it exists — 1 XRP since validators lowered it in December 2024 — and that reserve cannot be spent. Second, exchanges and swap services share one address between many users and tell deposits apart by the destination tag, a number attached to the payment. Does a XRP deposit need a destination tag?
Yes — on XRP Ledger, a XRP deposit without the “Destination Tag” is not credited automatically. The order shows it next to the address.
Do I need a destination tag to receive XRP?
Not for a personal wallet. Enter a tag only if the payout address belongs to an exchange that requires one; without it the exchange cannot credit you.
Why can't I send my whole XRP balance?
The base reserve of the account stays locked as long as the account exists. Wallets show it as reserved; only the rest can be sent.
