What to know about Stacks
Stacks is a smart-contract layer for Bitcoin: its blocks are anchored to Bitcoin blocks, and since the Nakamoto upgrade in 2024 it produces fast blocks every few seconds while still settling to Bitcoin's chain. STX is used for gas and for 'stacking', in which holders lock STX for reward cycles of about two weeks and receive BTC. Mainnet addresses start with SP. The provider uses a memo for STX deposits and waits for a long confirmation count, shown below. Leather and Xverse hold both BTC and STX in one app, but under different addresses, so copy the Stacks address specifically.
