USDT on Arbitrum One: the contract, what the move to USDT0 changed, why you pay gas in ETH, 120 confirmations at the provider and how not to mix it with Ethereum.

USDT on Arbitrum is Tether's dollar token on Arbitrum One, an Ethereum layer-2 rollup. It uses the same 0x address as your Ethereum wallet, costs cents instead of dollars to move and needs a small ETH balance on Arbitrum for gas. Since early 2025 the token on Arbitrum has been issued as USDT0, Tether's omnichain version, at the same contract address. The main risk is not the token but the network choice: an Arbitrum transfer is invisible to a service that watches only Ethereum mainnet.

One address, several networks

Arbitrum is EVM-compatible, so MetaMask, Rabby, Trust Wallet and hardware wallets use the same private key and the same 0x address on Ethereum, Arbitrum, BNB Smart Chain and Base. Your balance is separate on each chain. Holding 100 USDT on Arbitrum does not show up when the wallet is switched to Ethereum, and a deposit address that expects ERC20 will not see an Arbitrum transfer even though the address string is identical.

What USDT0 means for a holder

USDT0 is Tether's cross-chain deployment built on LayerZero's OFT standard. On Arbitrum it took over the existing USDT contract, so balances did not move and the address you see in explorers stayed the same. For an ordinary user nothing changes: the token is still 1:1 USDT, still has 6 decimals and is still accepted where โ€œUSDT Arbitrumโ€ is accepted. The difference matters for bridging: USDT0 can move between supported chains through its own mechanism rather than through a wrapped bridge token.

Gas: keep ETH on Arbitrum

Arbitrum fees have two parts: execution on the rollup and the cost of posting data to Ethereum. Both are paid in ETH on Arbitrum. A USDT transfer typically costs a few cents; during Ethereum congestion it can rise. If your wallet has USDT but no ETH on Arbitrum, the transfer will not start. Exchanges that support Arbitrum withdrawals can send you a little ETH on Arbitrum directly; bridging ETH from mainnet costs more and takes longer. The gas fee calculator estimates the cost in dollars.

Depositing USDT on Arbitrum into a swap

The liquidity provider supports USDT on Arbitrum for deposits and payouts. According to its pair data on 21.10.2026, a deposit of USDT on Arbitrum into a swap starts at about 6.7 USDT and is credited after 120 confirmations; Arbitrum produces blocks every quarter of a second, so that takes well under a minute, plus a few minutes of processing. Receiving USDT on Arbitrum from USDT TRC20 starts at about 2.3 USDT with a payout network fee near 0.1 USDT.

  1. In the widget choose USDT and the Arbitrum network on the side you need.
  2. Make sure the wallet you send from is switched to Arbitrum One, not Ethereum or Arbitrum Nova.
  3. Send exactly the amount shown, to the deposit address shown, and keep the transaction hash.
  4. If the order does not move after 15 minutes, look the hash up on Arbiscan: if it is there and successful, contact support with the order link.

Arbitrum batches its transactions to Ethereum, so a transfer is shown as confirmed on the rollup within a second, while settlement on Ethereum takes longer. For deposits and swaps only the Arbitrum confirmations count; the seven-day challenge period people mention applies to withdrawals through the official bridge back to Ethereum, not to ordinary transfers on Arbitrum.

Mistakes specific to Arbitrum

  • Picking ERC20 instead of Arbitrum on an exchange. The withdrawal goes to Ethereum mainnet and costs the ERC20 withdrawal fee. Funds are safe at your address but on another chain.
  • Arbitrum Nova. A separate chain with its own tokens; USDT on Nova is not USDT on Arbitrum One.
  • Bridged versus native confusion. Old guides mention bridged USDT; on Arbitrum the Tether contract above is the one exchanges use. For USDC the native and bridged (USDC.e) versions still differ โ€” see native USDC vs bridged USDC.e.
  • Withdrawing to a contract. Some smart-contract wallets have different addresses on different chains. If yours is a contract wallet, check it exists on Arbitrum before receiving there.

When Arbitrum is the right choice

Arbitrum suits people who already use DeFi on Ethereum's ecosystem and want low fees without leaving EVM tooling. For pure transfers between exchanges TRC20 and BEP20 are still more widely accepted. Comparing your route with the stablecoin fee comparison usually settles it in a minute, and Arbitrum fees explained covers the fee formula.

FAQ

Is USDT on Arbitrum the same as USDT0?

Yes. Since 2025 USDT on Arbitrum is issued as USDT0 at the same contract address, still 1:1 with USDT.

Do I need ETH to send USDT on Arbitrum?

Yes, a small amount of ETH on Arbitrum pays the gas. ETH on Ethereum mainnet does not count.

Is my Arbitrum address the same as my Ethereum address?

The 0x address is the same, but balances are separate per network.

I withdrew USDT on Arbitrum to an ERC20-only address. Is it lost?

If you control the address, switch your wallet to Arbitrum and the USDT is there. If it was an exchange deposit address, ask the exchange's support.

How long does a USDT deposit on Arbitrum take?

The provider waits for 120 confirmations, which is under a minute on Arbitrum, plus a few minutes of processing.
