In Trust Wallet your BEP20 address and your ERC20 address are the same string: one 0x… address that works on Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain and every other EVM network the app supports. That is not a bug. Both networks derive the account from the same recovery phrase with the same derivation path, so they produce the same key and the same address. What differs is the network: a token sent on BNB Smart Chain stays on BNB Smart Chain, even though the address is identical.
Why one address works on two networks
An EVM address is the last 20 bytes of the Keccak-256 hash of your public key. It does not contain the network name. Ethereum (chain ID 1) and BNB Smart Chain (chain ID 56) use the same address format and the same signature scheme, so the private key that controls 0xAbc… on Ethereum also controls 0xAbc… on BSC, Polygon, Arbitrum, Base and the rest. Trust Wallet simply shows that address under each network entry.
The consequence people miss: the balance is per network. If you have 100 USDT on BNB Smart Chain and 0 on Ethereum, Trust Wallet shows two separate USDT rows, and an Ethereum explorer will show 0 USDT for your address. The coins are not lost — they are on the other chain, under the same address.
Side by side
| BEP20 (BNB Smart Chain) | ERC20 (Ethereum) | |
|---|---|---|
| Address | 0x… (same) | 0x… (same) |
| Chain ID | 56 | 1 |
| Gas coin | BNB | ETH |
| Block time | under a second | 12 seconds |
| Typical USDT transfer gas | cents | from cents to dollars, depends on demand |
| Confirmations the swap provider waits for | 60 | 6 |
| Explorer | BscScan | Etherscan |
What this means when you deposit
Because the address field accepts both, nothing stops you from pasting your 0x address into a BEP20 withdrawal when the receiving side expected ERC20. If the receiver is your own Trust Wallet, that is harmless: the funds arrive on BSC and you see them under the BNB Smart Chain entry. If the receiver is an exchange or a swap order, it only watches the network it told you about. A deposit address created for ERC20 USDT is often a contract or an account the service does not monitor on BSC, and recovering such a deposit depends entirely on the service.
On KOT.CASH the order page shows the network next to the deposit address — for example USDT BEP20. Send only on that network. The payout side is chosen in the widget: picking USDT BEP20 means the payout goes to your 0x address on BNB Smart Chain, picking USDT ERC20 means Ethereum.
Gas: the part that trips people up
Every transfer of a token on BSC needs a little BNB, every transfer on Ethereum needs ETH. Trust Wallet will show a USDT balance on BNB Smart Chain but refuse to send it if the BNB balance next to it is zero. The same goes for Polygon (POL) and Arbitrum (ETH on Arbitrum, which is not the same as ETH on Ethereum). Keep a small amount of each gas coin on each network you use. The gas fee calculator turns gwei and gas units into a dollar figure for any of these networks.
If you sent on the wrong network
- Find the transaction hash and open it in the explorer of the network it was actually sent on (BscScan for BEP20, Etherscan for ERC20). Check the status is Success and the recipient is the address you meant.
- If the recipient is your own Trust Wallet address: switch to the matching network entry (or add the token on that network). The funds are there. Put some gas coin on that network and move or swap them as needed.
- If the recipient is an exchange or service: contact its support with the hash, network, amount and time. Some exchanges credit such deposits manually, often for a fee; some cannot.
- Do not resend the same amount "to fix it" — that only creates a second deposit on the same wrong network.

How to pick the network for USDT
For USDT both networks carry the official Tether token, so the choice is about cost and what the other side supports. BEP20 is usually cheaper per transfer and confirms quickly; ERC20 is accepted almost everywhere and is what DeFi on Ethereum uses. If you only need to move value, compare the fee in your case with the network fee comparison — and check that both the sender and the receiver list the network you choose.
FAQ
Is my BEP20 address the same as my ERC20 address in Trust Wallet?
Yes, for the same wallet and account it is the same 0x address. The tokens on each network are separate balances.
I sent USDT BEP20 to my own ERC20 address. Is it lost?
No. It arrived on BNB Smart Chain at the same address. Open the BNB Smart Chain USDT entry in Trust Wallet to see it.
Why can't I send USDT on BNB Smart Chain?
You need BNB on BNB Smart Chain to pay gas. Top up a small amount of BNB on that network.
Is BNB Smart Chain the same as BNB Beacon Chain?
No. BNB Beacon Chain used bnb1 addresses and was shut down in 2024. BEP20 tokens live on BNB Smart Chain with 0x addresses.
Can I add Polygon or Arbitrum and get yet another address?
You get the same 0x address there too. Only the network and the gas coin change.
