How to Swap ETH to BNB: Gas for BNB Smart Chain

To swap ETH to BNB, send ETH from Ethereum to an ETH → BNB order and receive native BNB on BNB Smart Chain at your usual 0x address. The swap widget runs it as one order. On 21 October 2026 the minimum was 0.0018 ETH (about $4.40), the provider credited ETH after 6 Ethereum confirmations, and the BNB payout fee was 0.0002 BNB (about $0.15). At ETH ≈ $2,444 and BNB ≈ $738, 0.01 ETH buys about 0.033 BNB before fees.

Why people need BNB

Most people buying a little BNB need it for one reason: gas. Every transaction on BNB Smart Chain — sending USDT-BEP20, swapping on PancakeSwap, moving any BEP20 token — pays its fee in BNB. A wallet holding BEP20 tokens and zero BNB cannot move them. A smaller group buys BNB to hold it or to use it on Binance; this guide covers both, but the numbers are aimed at the gas case.

One address, two chains

BNB Smart Chain is EVM-compatible, so the address you use on Ethereum in MetaMask, Rabby or Trust Wallet is also your BSC address. Paste the same 0x address into the form. To see the BNB afterwards, switch the wallet to BNB Smart Chain (chain ID 56). Ledger and Trezor users see BSC as a separate account in their apps, but the address derived from the same seed in the Ethereum path is usable on both.

Two look-alikes to avoid:

• opBNB — BNB's layer 2 network, also with 0x addresses and BNB as gas. A payout to BNB Smart Chain does not appear on opBNB, and vice versa. Choose BSC (BEP20) in the widget.
• BNB as an ERC20 token on Ethereum — an old token contract from 2017 that has nothing to do with gas on BSC. The swap pays out native BNB on BSC, not this token.

How far a small amount of BNB goes

Gas on BNB Smart Chain is cheap: a BEP20 token transfer uses roughly 50,000–65,000 gas, and BSC gas prices are a small fraction of a gwei to about one gwei. In dollars, that is usually between a fraction of a cent and a few cents per transfer. Even the minimum swap leaves you with enough BNB for dozens of token transfers; $10 of BNB covers hundreds of ordinary transactions.

Step by step

1. Open the widget, choose ETH (Ethereum network) to send and BNB (BSC) to receive.
2. Enter the amount and check the minimum. Remember the Ethereum gas for your send: for a plain ETH transfer, 21,000 gas, about $0.26 at 5 gwei.
3. Paste your 0x address and create the order.
4. Send ETH on Ethereum mainnet. If your ETH is on Arbitrum or Base, pick that network as the source instead — the widget lists them separately.
5. After 6 confirmations (about 1–2 minutes) the BNB is sent; BSC blocks come in under a second, so it appears almost immediately.
6. Switch your wallet to BNB Smart Chain to see it.

Common mistakes

• Expecting the BNB on Ethereum. The wallet is on the Ethereum network and shows zero BNB. Switch networks.
• Sending WETH instead of ETH. Wrapped ether is an ERC20 token; the deposit expects native ETH. Unwrap first or create an order for the token you actually hold.
• Sending your whole ETH balance. Leave enough for the gas of the send itself; otherwise the wallet refuses or the transaction fails.
• A payout to an exchange's opBNB address. Use the BSC (BEP20) deposit address, not opBNB.

ETH on BNB Chain is something else

BNB Smart Chain also has a token called ETH — a Binance-Peg ERC20-style token backed by ether held by Binance. If your wallet on BSC shows 'ETH', that is this pegged token, not BNB, and it cannot pay BSC gas either. The provider lists it as a separate option (ETH on BEP20). Swapping pegged ETH on BSC to BNB on BSC is possible in the widget as well, and then the deposit side also runs on BSC and confirms in about a minute.

The same applies to other pegged coins on BSC such as BTCB or XRP: they are BEP20 tokens, useful inside BNB Chain apps, but none of them pays gas.
