How to Use BscScan: BNB Smart Chain Transactions and Tokens

Check BEP20 transfers on BscScan: status, confirmations, BNB gas, the real USDT contract with 18 decimals, fake tokens and the opBNB look-alike network.

BscScan is the block explorer for BNB Smart Chain, built by the Etherscan team, so its pages look almost identical to Etherscan's. To check a BEP20 transfer, search the transaction hash at bscscan.com and read the Status, the Block confirmations, the 'BEP-20 Tokens Transferred' line and the fee in BNB. What differs from Ethereum are the numbers and a few traps specific to BSC: much faster blocks, the 18-decimal USDT contract, a flood of fake tokens and the look-alike opBNB network.

For a field-by-field walkthrough of the page layout, see how to read an Etherscan transaction โ€” the fields are the same. This guide focuses on what is BSC-specific.

Same layout, different numbers

  • Block time. BNB Smart Chain cut its block interval twice in 2025 and now produces blocks in under a second. Confirmations climb very quickly; 60 confirmations, which the KOT.CASH provider waits for, pass in under a minute.
  • Fees in BNB. A token transfer costs a few cents of BNB at current gas prices. The fee line shows BNB and its dollar value at the time.
  • Fast finality. BSC validators vote on blocks, and a block is final after a couple of blocks under normal conditions, so reorganisations deeper than that are not expected.
  • Token standard name. BscScan calls tokens BEP-20, which is the same interface as ERC-20.

Real USDT vs a fake: what to compare

The most useful habit on BscScan is checking the token contract. Tether's USDT on BNB Smart Chain (shown as 'Binance-Peg BSC-USD') is 0x55d398326f99059fF775485246999027B3197955 and, unlike USDT on Ethereum or TRON, it uses 18 decimals. That matters if you read raw values from logs or an API: 1 USDT is 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 units on BSC but 1,000,000 on Ethereum. The token decimals converter has both presets.

Fake tokens on BSC are cheap to create, and airdropped scam tokens are common. They show the same symbol, a different contract, and usually no logo or a 'suspicious' label. Some appear in your wallet with a huge value; you cannot sell them, and sites that offer to help are drainers. If the token transfer line shows a contract other than the official one, the transfer is not USDT, whatever the name says.

opBNB and the old Beacon Chain

Two other networks cause confusion. opBNB is a layer 2 with the same 0x address format; it has its own explorer (opbnb.bscscan.com), and a hash from opBNB will not be found on BscScan. The BNB Beacon Chain (bnb1โ€ฆ addresses, memos) was shut down in 2024; any guide that tells you to add a memo for BNB is outdated. If a hash is not found on BscScan, the transaction hash identifier lists which other EVM explorers to try.

Approvals and contract interactions

BSC is home to many DEXes and yield contracts, so approvals pile up. On a transaction page, an 'Approve' action or a Method of approve means you allowed a contract to spend a token. Paste unclear input data into the transaction input data decoder to see the spender and amount; an amount of 2^256โˆ’1 is an unlimited approval. BscScan's Token Approval Checker lets you review and revoke approvals for your address.

Checking a BNB or BEP20 deposit to a swap

  1. Open the hash on BscScan and confirm Status: Success.
  2. For BNB, check the Value field; for USDT or another token, check the token transfer line and the contract.
  3. Confirm the To (or token recipient) address equals the deposit address on the order page.
  4. Wait until confirmations exceed 60 โ€” about a minute. The order page then moves to processing.

If you need to estimate what a BSC transfer will cost before sending, the gas fee calculator covers BNB Smart Chain alongside Ethereum and its layer 2s.

Address pages and labels

Open an address to see its BNB balance, a Token Holdings dropdown with every BEP20 token it holds, and tabs for transactions, internal transactions and token transfers. Known addresses carry labels such as an exchange's hot wallet or a bridge; a label is a useful hint, not a guarantee. A 'Contract' tab means the address is code. On your own address, the token list will often include spam tokens you never asked for. Ignore them: do not try to sell, transfer or approve them, because interacting with a malicious token contract is how some drainers work.

When the transfer shows Fail

A failed BEP20 transfer still pays its gas in BNB. Common reasons are a token that blocks transfers (paused or blacklisting contracts), an amount larger than the balance, or a gas limit set too low by hand. BscScan shows the error message under Status when the contract returns one, for example 'BEP20: transfer amount exceeds balance'.

FAQ

Is BscScan made by the same team as Etherscan?

Yes. BscScan is part of the Etherscan family of explorers, which is why the pages look the same.

What is the official USDT contract on BSC?

0x55d398326f99059fF775485246999027B3197955, displayed as Binance-Peg BSC-USD. It uses 18 decimals.

Why can't BscScan find my transaction?

It may be on opBNB, Ethereum or another EVM chain, or it was never broadcast. Check the network in your wallet.

How many confirmations does a BSC deposit need?

The KOT.CASH provider waits for 60, which takes under a minute at current block times.

Do BNB transfers need a memo?

No. Memos were used only on the retired BNB Beacon Chain.
