How to Swap XRP to ETH: Destination Tag and 1 XRP Reserve

To swap XRP to ETH, send XRP on the XRP Ledger to the deposit address of a swap order together with the destination tag shown on the order page, and receive native ETH at your Ethereum address. The current minimum is about 22.67 XRP — roughly $30 with XRP near $1.32. The XRP side settles in seconds, because the provider needs just one validated ledger; with ETH near $2,444, 100 XRP turns into about 0.053 ETH after fees.

The two XRP-specific details

The destination tag. The deposit address is shared between many orders. The tag is a number that tells the provider which order your XRP belongs to. Most wallets — Xaman, Ledger Live, Trust Wallet, exchange withdrawal forms — have a field called Destination Tag or Memo/Tag. Fill it in with the exact number from the order page. Without it the payment arrives but cannot be matched automatically.

The reserve. Every XRP account keeps 1 XRP (since December 2024) plus 0.2 XRP for each trust line, offer or other object it owns. That amount cannot be sent. If your wallet holds 50 XRP and two trust lines, you can send at most 48.6 XRP minus the tiny fee. The XRP reserve calculator shows your spendable balance.

Step by step

1. Copy your Ethereum receive address from MetaMask, Rabby, a hardware wallet or an exchange that accepts ETH on Ethereum mainnet.
2. In the widget, choose XRP to send and ETH (Ethereum) to receive, and enter the amount — at least about 22.67 XRP.
3. Pick a floating rate (1% service fee) or a fixed one (1.5%).
4. Create the order. Copy the deposit address and the destination tag.
5. Send XRP from your wallet with the tag filled in. Double-check the tag before you sign.
6. One validated ledger, 3–5 seconds later, the deposit is registered; the provider's processing estimate is 2–4 minutes; ETH is then sent minus about 0.0003 ETH network fee.

What 50, 100 and 1,000 XRP give in ETH

The difference between the middle and right columns is the 1% service fee and the payout fee. On small amounts the fixed payout fee weighs more, which is why the minimum sits around $30. For live figures use the crypto converter or simply type the amount into the widget.

Sending from an exchange

When withdrawing XRP from an exchange to the deposit, choose the XRP Ledger network (sometimes listed as XRP or Ripple). Fill in the exchange's Tag/Memo field with the destination tag from the order page; if the exchange's form says the tag is optional, it is still required here. Check whether the exchange subtracts its withdrawal fee from the amount — usually it does — and adjust so the order receives what it expects.

Ethereum side: receiving ETH

ETH arrives as a plain transfer on Ethereum mainnet. It is not ERC20 and not on a layer 2. If you want ETH on Arbitrum or Base instead, check whether the widget offers that network for the payout; otherwise receive on mainnet and move it later. The payout confirms in the next Ethereum block or two; your wallet shows it within about half a minute of being sent.

If something goes wrong

• Forgot the tag. Do not send again. Contact support with the order link and the XRP transaction hash; the deposit can be matched manually.
• Wrong tag. Same procedure. Give support the tag you used and the one from the order.
• Payment failed with 'unfunded' or similar. You tried to send into the reserve. Lower the amount by the reserve and fee.
• Sent XRP from BNB Smart Chain. That is a wrapped BEP20 token, not XRP on the XRP Ledger, and it does not reach the order.
