What to know about Ripple USD
RLUSD is Ripple's dollar stablecoin, launched in December 2024 under a New York trust charter and issued both on the XRP Ledger and as an ERC20 token on Ethereum. On the XRP Ledger tokens are not automatic: an account must first set a trustline to the RLUSD issuer before it can hold the token, and every trustline raises the account's XRP reserve. That is the RLUSD mistake people make most often — a payout to an XRPL address without the trustline cannot be delivered. Deposits of RLUSD on the XRP Ledger also need the destination tag shown in the order. On Ethereum, RLUSD behaves like any ERC20 token.
