What to know about NEAR Protocol
NEAR is a sharded proof-of-stake chain with blocks about every second and finality within two or three seconds. Its accounts are unusual: besides 64-character hexadecimal implicit accounts, NEAR supports human-readable names such as alice.near, and both kinds are valid destinations. Accounts also pay for the data they store by locking a small amount of NEAR (storage staking), which is why a wallet shows a slightly lower available balance than its total. NEAR has an EVM environment, Aurora, whose 0x addresses look like Ethereum ones; they are not NEAR addresses and cannot receive a NEAR payout. The provider pays NEAR on the NEAR network only.
