To swap USDC on Base to USDT, you send USDC from your Base address to a swap deposit address and receive USDT on the network you pick โ TRON (TRC20), BNB Smart Chain (BEP20) or Ethereum (ERC20). The swap widget quotes all of them. On 21 October 2026 the minimum was 30.01 USDC, the provider credited Base deposits after 30 confirmations, and the USDT payout fee was 1.3 USDT on TRON, 0.15 USDT on BNB Chain and 0.8 USDT on Ethereum.
Why people end up with USDC on Base
Base is an Ethereum layer 2 network built on the OP Stack and launched by Coinbase in 2023. Coinbase lets customers send USDC to Base cheaply, many apps pay out on Base, and Circle issues native USDC there. The problem appears when the next recipient wants USDT on TRON โ a P2P seller, an exchange that does not list Base, or a business that only accepts TRC20. A stablecoin swap moves the dollars across in one step without a bridge.
Timeline of one swap
Base produces a block every 2 seconds. The provider's 30 confirmations therefore take about a minute. Processing on Base routes was quoted at 2โ4 minutes. The payout then lands on the destination network: within a minute on TRON (the receiving side counts its own 20-block confirmations if it is an exchange), seconds on BNB Chain, about a minute on Ethereum.
| Payout network | Payout fee | โ received on 100 USDC (float 1%) | Gas coin needed to move it later |
|---|---|---|---|
| TRON (TRC20) | 1.3 USDT | โ 97.7 USDT | TRX (energy) |
| BNB Smart Chain (BEP20) | 0.15 USDT | โ 98.85 USDT | BNB |
| Ethereum (ERC20) | 0.8 USDT | โ 98.2 USDT | ETH |
The numbers assume both stablecoins trade at par; the widget uses the live USDC/USDT rate, which is usually within a few hundredths of a percent of 1.
You need ETH on Base to send
Base uses ETH as its gas coin. A USDC transfer on Base usually costs a fraction of a cent, but with zero ETH on your Base address the wallet cannot sign the transaction at all. If your Base wallet only holds USDC, get a small amount of ETH on Base first: withdraw a few dollars of ETH from an exchange that supports the Base network, or ask the sender to include some. Coinbase app users can send from their account balance, in which case Coinbase pays the gas.
Steps
- In the widget choose USDC with the network Base as the coin you send, and USDT on the network your recipient wants.
- Enter the amount (at least 30.01 USDC at the time of writing) and check the USDT you will receive.
- Paste the USDT address. A TRON address starts with T; BNB Chain and Ethereum addresses start with 0x.
- Create the order and send USDC on Base to the deposit address. In MetaMask or Rabby make sure the network selector says Base before you press Send.
- Wait about a minute for 30 Base confirmations; then the USDT payout is sent and its hash appears on the order page.
Three ways this goes wrong
- USDC sent on Ethereum instead of Base. The deposit address is a 0x address that also exists on Ethereum, so a transfer on the wrong network can succeed on-chain but never reach the order. Contact support with the hash; do not send again.
- Bridged USDbC instead of native USDC. Early on Base there was a bridged token called USDbC. If your wallet shows USDbC, it is a different token from native USDC.
- A TRON address that has never held USDT. Receiving is free for you, but the first outgoing USDT transfer from a fresh TRON address costs more energy. Keep some TRX there; see the TRC20 fee calculator.
If you are not sure which USDT network your recipient expects, ask before swapping. The same text string โ USDT โ means three different tokens on three networks, and a payout on the wrong one cannot be redirected after it is sent.
Swap or bridge?
A bridge moves the same token between chains; it cannot turn USDC on Base into USDT on TRON, because TRON is not an EVM chain and USDT is a different token. Circle's CCTP moves native USDC between supported chains, but TRON is not one of them. That leaves two routes: sell USDC for USDT on an exchange that supports Base deposits and then withdraw on TRC20, or one cross-network swap. The exchange route needs an account and costs a trading fee plus a withdrawal fee, typically 1 USDT or more on TRC20; for amounts in the hundreds the swap is usually comparable or cheaper and takes a few minutes.
FAQ
What is the minimum to swap USDC on Base?
30.01 USDC on 21 October 2026. The widget shows the current minimum.
How long does a Base deposit take to confirm?
The provider waits for 30 Base blocks; at 2 seconds per block that is about a minute.
Which USDT network has the lowest payout fee?
BNB Smart Chain at 0.15 USDT, then Ethereum at 0.8 USDT and TRON at 1.3 USDT (provider data, 21.10.2026).
Why can't my wallet send USDC on Base?
It needs ETH on Base for gas. Add a small amount of ETH on the Base network to the same address.
Can I send USDC from Coinbase directly to the deposit address?
Yes, choose the Base network in the withdrawal and check that the amount arriving equals the order amount.
