What to know about Polygon
POL replaced MATIC as the gas and staking token of Polygon PoS in September 2024; on the Polygon network the switch happened automatically, while MATIC held on Ethereum had to be migrated through Polygon's portal. POL now exists in two places that matter for swaps: as the native gas coin of Polygon PoS, where blocks come every two seconds and fees are fractions of a cent, and as an ERC20 token on Ethereum, where it is staked and bridged. The provider lists both networks. Both use 0x addresses, so the address alone does not show where the POL is. Polygon PoS also hosts both native USDC and older bridged USDC.e, which is why Polygon users often swap POL and stablecoins together.

POL mistakes that cost money
Sending ERC20 POL from Ethereum to a deposit created for Polygon PoS. Choose the network the coins are actually on.
Trying to swap old MATIC on Ethereum as if it were POL. Unmigrated MATIC is a different token; migrate it first.
Expecting a Polygon zkEVM address to be the same network. zkEVM is a separate chain and is not listed for POL payouts.
