To swap ETC to ETH you send Ethereum Classic from its own chain to a swap order and receive Ether on Ethereum mainnet. Both coins use the same 0x address format, so the same wallet address can hold both โ but they are two separate blockchains, and coins never cross between them by themselves. On KOT.CASH the order takes at least 3.82 ETC at the time of writing, and the slow part is the deposit: the liquidity provider waits for 150 Ethereum Classic blocks before it moves on, which is roughly half an hour.
Why Ethereum Classic needs 150 confirmations
ETC is the original Ethereum chain that continued without the 2016 DAO rollback. It still runs proof of work, and its hashrate is a small fraction of what large proof-of-work coins have. In August 2020 the chain suffered several 51% attacks: an attacker mined a longer private chain and reversed transactions that exchanges had already credited. Since then services that accept ETC wait for many more blocks than they do for other coins.
The provider behind KOT.CASH currently waits for 150 blocks. Ethereum Classic produces a block about every 13 seconds, so 150 blocks take around 32โ35 minutes on average. The provider's own estimate for the whole ETC to ETH order is 18โ20 minutes of processing on top of that. Plan for 45โ60 minutes from the moment you send.
| Coin | Confirmations | Block time | โ wait |
|---|---|---|---|
| ETC | 150 | โ 13 s | 32โ35 min |
| ETH (ERC20) | 6 | 12 s | โ 1.2 min |
| BTC | 1 | โ 10 min | โ 10 min |
| LTC | 6 | 2.5 min | โ 15 min |
One address, two chains: the main risk
MetaMask, Trust Wallet and most other EVM wallets show the same 0x address for Ethereum and Ethereum Classic, because both chains derive addresses the same way. That convenience creates the typical mistake: the wallet is switched to Ethereum mainnet and you send ETH to the ETC deposit address, or the other way round. A transaction on the wrong chain never reaches the order.
- In your wallet, check the network name at the top before you press Send. It must say Ethereum Classic (chain ID 61), not Ethereum (chain ID 1).
- If you withdraw ETC from an exchange, the withdrawal network is usually called ETC. Do not pick ERC20 โ there is no ERC20 version of ETC.
- For the payout, paste an address from a wallet that supports Ethereum mainnet. Ether arrives as the native coin on chain ID 1.
- Old ETC wallets sometimes use derivation path m/44'/61'/0'/0 instead of Ethereum's m/44'/60'/0'/0. If your ETC balance shows on a different address than your ETH, that is why โ both are fine.
Sent ETH to the ETC deposit address by mistake? The coins are on Ethereum at an address controlled by the provider, not by you, so recovery depends on support. Write with the order link and the transaction hash; read what to do after sending to the wrong network before anything else.
Step by step
- Open the Simple Swap form, choose Ethereum Classic as the coin you send and Ethereum as the coin you receive, and type the amount. The widget shows the ETH you get and the minimum.
- Pick the rate type. Floating follows the market until your ETC is confirmed โ with a 35-minute confirmation window that matters more than usual. A fixed rate locks the ETH amount but costs a bit more.
- Paste your Ethereum address. The address validator checks the checksum, but it cannot tell which chain you meant, so the network check is up to you.
- Send ETC on the Ethereum Classic network to the deposit address shown on the order page, in one transaction.
- Keep the order page open or bookmarked. It shows the confirmation progress and, later, the Ethereum transaction hash.
What the ETH payout costs
Two costs are built into the quote. The service fee is 1% on a floating rate and 1.5% on a fixed one. The Ethereum payout carries a network fee that the provider estimates at 0.0003 ETH for this pair at the time of writing โ about $0.70 with ETH near $2,444. On a 4 ETC order that is a noticeable share; on 50 ETC it disappears in rounding. The swap fee calculator shows how fixed fees scale with the amount.
Should you wait longer before using the ETH?
No. Once the payout is in an Ethereum block, it is protected by Ethereum's proof-of-stake finality, which arrives after two epochs, roughly 13 minutes. The reorganisation risk that forced the long ETC wait applies to the coin you sent, not to the Ether you receive.
FAQ
How long does ETC to ETH take?
Usually 45โ60 minutes in total: about 32โ35 minutes for 150 Ethereum Classic confirmations, then processing and an Ethereum payout that confirms within a minute or two.
What is the minimum ETC for the swap?
About 3.82 ETC at the time of writing. The minimum follows network costs, so the widget shows the current figure before you create the order.
Can I use the same address for ETH and ETC?
Yes, an EVM wallet shows the same 0x address on both chains. The coins are still separate: ETC stays on Ethereum Classic, ETH on Ethereum.
Is ETC an ERC20 token?
No. ETC is the native coin of its own chain. Withdraw it from exchanges with the ETC network, never with an ERC20 option.
Why do some services refuse small ETC deposits?
Because every deposit needs the same long confirmation wait and processing, the provider sets a minimum that keeps the order worth processing after fees.
