What to know about Synthetix
SNX is the collateral of Synthetix: stakers lock SNX to mint the sUSD stablecoin and take on a share of the system's debt, earning fees in return. That design has two consequences for swaps. Staked SNX is locked while there is outstanding debt, so it has to be unstaked by burning sUSD first. And staking rewards have historically been paid as escrowed SNX that vests over twelve months and cannot be transferred before then. Synthetix runs on both Ethereum and Optimism, but the provider handles SNX on Ethereum only; SNX on Optimism needs bridging first.
