What to know about Chainlink
LINK pays the node operators of Chainlink, the oracle network that feeds prices and other off-chain data to most DeFi protocols, and it secures Chainlink's cross-chain protocol CCIP. On Ethereum, LINK is an ERC677 token — ERC20 with an extra 'transfer and call' function. Versions on BNB Chain and Polygon that were bridged by third parties are not ERC677 and once had to be converted through Chainlink's PegSwap to be usable with oracles. The provider handles LINK on Ethereum only. LINK can be staked in Chainlink's staking pools, where withdrawals require an unbonding period followed by a claim window.
