Identify the staking product before reading a countdown
This page concerns native Chainlink Staking v0.2. A third-party liquid-staking product or a hosted account can have a different exit workflow. Do not apply a timer from one product to another merely because both displays contain LINK. Identify the position and the actual interface administering it.
The official v0.2 FAQ distinguishes a principal-unbonding mechanism from the ramp-up of locked rewards. A countdown ending on one screen does not establish that every displayed LINK amount became transferable. Your exchange input must come from the plain token balance that is actually available for the intended payment.
Keep three staking clocks separate from an exchange estimate
| Clock or state | Official v0.2 description checked 23 October 2026 | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Principal cooldown | 28 days after initiating an unstake | That the principal has already reached the wallet |
| Principal claim window | Seven days to unstake after the cooldown | An automatic completed withdrawal |
| Locked-reward ramp-up | 90-day progression toward claimable rewards | The same deadline as the principal withdrawal |
| Exchange estimate | Review the currently offered terms when funds are available | An exchange rate reserved throughout a staking wait |
Before treating a staking position as exchange funding
- Check the live position state rather than a saved date
- Read whether the position is still cooling down, is inside its claim window, or has already been withdrawn. A calendar reminder is useful for your own workflow but is not proof that the protocol withdrawal completed.
- Review what exiting means for your rewards
- The official documentation says unstaking can affect accrued locked rewards and ramp-up progress. Read the actual positionโs consequences before deciding to exit. This page does not advise you to forfeit rewards, restake, or use another product to bypass its rules.
- Use the actual wallet token credit for the payment
- After a completed withdrawal or other legitimate LINK credit, review the available amount and the current exchange instruction. Obtain USDC receiving details for the selected output network. The staking receipt and the later payment to the exchange should remain distinguishable.
A missed claim window belongs to the staking record
The v0.2 FAQ states that staked LINK not withdrawn during the claim window automatically re-enters v0.2. If an old countdown ended but the tokens are still in the position, inspect that state with the official staking interface. Do not diagnose an unpaid exchange as missing funds merely from the earlier unstake request.
Keep the unstake request, actual token withdrawal, exchange funding payment and USDC payout in separate entries. If the exchange input was already sent, trace its transaction before attempting another payment. If it was never funded, resolve the source availability first rather than trying to keep an old estimate alive through a multi-week wait.
Questions about LINK availability after staking
- Does completing the cooldown automatically send LINK to my wallet?
- No. The documented mechanism has a following claim window. Establish that an actual withdrawal completed before treating the principal as payment funding.
- Is reward ramp-up the same clock as principal cooldown?
- No. v0.2 describes them separately, and exiting can affect locked rewards and ramp-up progress. Review the position before deciding.
- Does this timing apply to every liquid-staking product containing LINK?
- No. This page covers native Chainlink Staking v0.2. A third-party product has its own rules and withdrawal workflow.
