Sending USDT on Polygon PoS: the token contract, gas paid in POL after the MATIC rename, 60 confirmations, typical costs and the mistakes that strand Polygon USDT.

USDT on Polygon is a bridged Tether token on Polygon PoS, the network exchanges label โ€œPolygonโ€, โ€œMATICโ€ or โ€œPOLโ€. You hold it at your usual 0x address, gas is paid in POL (the coin formerly called MATIC), and a transfer typically costs less than a cent. Polygon USDT is accepted by most large exchanges, which makes it a cheap EVM alternative to ERC20 โ€” as long as the wallet holds some POL and the receiving side really expects Polygon.

Contract and decimals

The Tether token on Polygon PoS lives at 0xc2132D05D31c914a87C6611C10748AEb04B58e8F and has 6 decimals. It was created through the Polygon PoS bridge from Ethereum, which is why some explorers call it โ€œ(PoS) Tether USDโ€. Exchanges treat it as USDT on Polygon without any distinction. A transfer of 1 USDT appears in raw contract data as 1000000; the token decimals converter helps when reading calldata.

MATIC became POL: what it changes for gas

In September 2024 Polygon replaced MATIC with POL as the gas and staking token of Polygon PoS. The conversion on the network was automatic: balances previously shown as MATIC are POL now. Wallets that have not updated still display the old name, which confuses people into thinking they hold the wrong coin. For USDT users only one thing matters: you need POL in the same wallet to pay gas.

What a Polygon USDT transfer needs (POL price varies, fees at the time of writing)
ItemTypical value
Gas for an ERC-20 transferabout 45,000โ€“65,000 gas units
Gas pricetens to a few hundred gwei of POL, rises in busy periods
Costusually below $0.01
Block timeabout 2 seconds
Provider confirmations60 (about 2 minutes)

If you have USDT but no POL, ask the exchange to withdraw a small amount of POL on the Polygon network, or buy POL inside your wallet's swap feature if it offers gas-free swaps. Sending POL from Ethereum (ERC20 POL) does not help directly: that is a token on mainnet, not gas on Polygon.

Depositing Polygon USDT into a swap

The liquidity provider accepts USDT on Polygon as a deposit and as a payout. Pair data on 21.10.2026: depositing USDT on Polygon to receive USDT TRC20 starts at about 6.7 USDT and is credited after 60 confirmations; receiving USDT on Polygon for USDT TRC20 starts at about 2.3 USDT with a payout network fee near 0.07 USDT. Processing typically adds 2โ€“4 minutes.

  1. Select USDT with the Polygon network on the side you need. The network label in the widget follows the provider's naming.
  2. Check that your wallet is on Polygon PoS (chain ID 137), not Polygon zkEVM, which is a separate network.
  3. Send the exact amount and note the hash; Polygonscan shows whether the transfer succeeded.
  4. Payouts to Polygon arrive at your 0x address; switch the wallet to Polygon to see them.

Checking a transfer on Polygonscan

Polygonscan works like Etherscan. Paste the hash and look at three fields: Status (Success or Fail), the Tokens Transferred line, which shows the USDT amount and both addresses, and the transaction fee in POL. A failed transfer still pays gas but moves no USDT. If the explorer shows no transaction for the hash at all, the wallet did not broadcast it โ€” check that it is not stuck as pending with a low gas price.

Polygon PoS has had chain reorganisations in the past, which is one reason services wait for dozens of blocks. Since the Heimdall and Bor upgrades in 2025 Polygon finalises blocks much faster, but providers keep conservative counts; 60 confirmations at roughly two seconds a block is the number to plan with.

Errors that strand Polygon USDT

  • Sent on Polygon to an ERC20-only deposit. The exchange address exists on both networks, but the exchange credits only the network it watches. Many exchanges can recover such deposits manually because they control the same key on Polygon; expect a fee and a wait.
  • Polygon zkEVM instead of Polygon PoS. A different chain with different token contracts; Polygon PoS is the one exchanges mean by โ€œPolygonโ€.
  • Receiving and immediately sending everything. Without POL left for gas the next transfer fails. Keep a small reserve.
  • Fake tokens with the USDT name. Polygon has many lookalikes; compare the contract address with the one above.

Polygon or another network?

For small transfers Polygon competes with TRON, BNB Smart Chain and Solana on cost and is often the cheapest EVM option. Acceptance is the weaker side: fewer OTC desks and payment services support Polygon USDT than TRC20. The network fee comparison shows what one transfer costs on each chain at today's prices, and Polygon gas fees explains the fee mechanics.

FAQ

What is the USDT contract on Polygon?

0xc2132D05D31c914a87C6611C10748AEb04B58e8F on Polygon PoS, 6 decimals.

Do I pay Polygon gas in MATIC or POL?

In POL. MATIC was replaced by POL as the gas token in September 2024; old MATIC balances on Polygon are POL now.

How long does a Polygon USDT deposit take?

The provider credits it after 60 confirmations, about two minutes, plus processing.

Is USDT on Polygon the same as USDT ERC20?

Both are Tether USDT, but on different networks. Send on the network the receiver supports.

Why is my Polygon USDT transfer failing?

Most often there is not enough POL for gas, or the gas price set by hand is too low during congestion.
