How the markup is measured
The market value of what you send is the amount times the market rate between the two coins โ the price of the sent coin divided by the price of the received one. Whatever is missing from the quote is the total cost of that route: the service fee, the spread, any slippage and the payout network fee. If the service tells you its network fee, subtracting it shows what the service itself charges.
Example: sending 0.1 BTC at $82,600 is worth 8,260 USDT. A quote of 8,150 USDT with a stated 1.3 USDT payout fee is 1.33% below market in total and about 1.32% after the fee; a quote of 8,095 USDT is 2% below market. On 0.1 BTC the difference between them is 55 USDT.
market value = amount ร (price sent รท price received)
shortfall % = (market value โ received) รท market value
markup % = (market value โ received โ network fee) รท market valueGetting a fair comparison
- Take all quotes at the same time โ prices move every minute.
- Use the final amount after every fee, not the headline rate. Some services add fees on the confirmation step.
- Check whether a quote is fixed or floating. A floating quote can change before your deposit is confirmed; a fixed one usually costs more.
- Include the cost of getting the coins there: an exchange withdrawal fee or gas on your side is part of the route.
KOT.CASH's numbers
KOT.CASH publishes its fee: 1% on a floating rate and 1.5% on a fixed rate, plus the network fee of the payout. The amount the widget shows before you create an order already includes all of it, so you can enter that figure here as one of the quotes and compare it with an exchange or another swap service.
Frequently asked questions
+What market price should I use?
A liquid reference such as the live ticker on this page or a large exchange's spot price at the same moment. Different references differ by a fraction of a percent.
+Why is my markup negative?
The quote is above your reference price โ usually because the reference is stale or from a different market. Refresh the prices.
+Is a 1โ2% markup normal?
For instant swaps without an account, 0.5โ2% total is common; exchanges with order books are cheaper on fees but add withdrawal costs and require an account.
+Does the network fee count as markup?
No โ it goes to the blockchain, not the service. That is why the tool shows the total and the markup without the stated network fee separately.
+Can I compare more than two services?
Yes, add up to six quotes; the best one is marked in the table.
