From 26% to 33%
Legge 197/2022 (budget law for 2023) introduced article 67, paragraph 1, letter c-sexies of the TUIR: gains on crypto-assets are taxed at 26%, with a €2,000 threshold below which nothing was due. Legge 207/2024 (budget law for 2025) removed the threshold from 2025 and raised the rate to 33% for gains realised from 1 January 2026. The calculator picks the rate from the year of the sale.
The same 2025 law let holders revalue crypto owned on 1 January 2025 by paying an 18% substitute tax on that value; if you used it, enter the revalued amount as the purchase cost of those coins.
Losses and the cost method
Net losses (minusvalenze) of a year can be carried forward and offset against crypto gains of the following four tax years; enter them in the field for earlier losses. The law refers to the cost or purchase value but does not spell out a lot-matching method for crypto, so the calculator lets you choose FIFO or LIFO — use the method your adviser or your intermediary's tax report applies, and keep it consistent.
net gain = Σ (proceeds − cost) of sales in the year
base = max(0, net gain − losses from the previous four years)
tax = base × 26% (2025) or 33% (from 2026)Sources and simplifications
