What to know about The Graph

The Graph indexes blockchain data and makes it available through services such as Subgraphs. GRT is the utility token associated with the protocol's data-provider and consumer roles. Holding or transferring GRT does not by itself establish a delegation to an Indexer or create a Subgraph Studio API key. Those are separate interactions with their own settings. Current delegation documentation describes choosing both an Indexer and a data service under Graph Horizon. For a simple exchange, first identify the transferable token and the network requested by the receiver. The project's documentation lists different token contracts for Ethereum mainnet and Arbitrum One. An ecosystem network appearing in that documentation is not proof that an exchange deposit accepts it.

GRT mistakes that cost money

  • Treating a plain GRT token transfer as a completed delegation to the selected Indexer and data service.

  • Assuming an Arbitrum GRT balance matches an Ethereum deposit just because both use EVM-style addresses.

  • Expecting a GRT purchase to create or configure a Subgraph Studio API key automatically.

GRT: questions and answers

Does exchanging GRT delegate it to an Indexer?

An exchange transfer and protocol delegation are different actions. The current delegation guide describes selecting an Indexer and data service. Follow the relevant protocol interface when delegation is the intended task; a transfer receipt alone does not demonstrate that selection.

Can I choose any network listed by The Graph?

Use the specific network in the receiving instruction. The project documents distinct Ethereum and Arbitrum token contracts, but the receiving service determines its supported deposit route. Check the offered network and token identifier together rather than relying on the address's visual shape.

Will owning GRT give my application an API key?

Subgraph Studio documentation treats API-key creation and management as a separate account workflow. Keys control access and usage settings. A token balance is not a substitute for creating and configuring the key required by that application route.
