The Solana error Transaction results in an account with insufficient funds for rent means one account would be left with a balance above zero but below the rent-exempt minimum.
Why it happens
Every Solana account must either hold at least the rent-exempt minimum for its data size or have zero balance, as explained in the Solana accounts documentation. For a plain wallet the minimum is a small fraction of a SOL; check the current value in your wallet or with the rent-exempt calculator. The rule applies to both the sender after the transfer and a brand-new recipient.
How to fix it
- Read the account index in the error: (0) is usually you, (1) the recipient.
- To empty a wallet, use Max so the balance becomes exactly zero.
- To keep using it, leave at least the minimum plus fees.
- For a new recipient, send at least the minimum.
- Close empty token accounts to free locked SOL.
Background: rent-exempt minimum explained.
The same error can appear when an exchange withdrawal to a brand-new wallet ends up below the minimum after the exchange fee; increase the withdrawal amount. A rejected transfer is not included in a block, but check the explorer before retrying to avoid paying twice.
Keep a small SOL buffer for future fees.
Swapping SOL
On the SOL to USDT page, send exactly the order amount within an hour. If you are swapping almost all of your SOL, either send everything or keep the minimum and a fee buffer.
FAQ
How do I send all my SOL?
Use Max; a zero balance satisfies the rent rule.
Why can't I send a tiny amount to a new address?
A new account must end up at or above the rent-exempt minimum.
