How to Buy TRX with USDT ERC20 or BEP20 to Pay TRON Fees

Buy TRX with USDT on Ethereum or BNB Chain to pay TRON energy: how much TRX one USDT transfer burns, a 1.1 USDT minimum, the 1 TRX payout fee and timing.

Table of how much TRX to buy for one, five or twenty USDT-TRC20 transfers without staked energy.
About 6.4 TRX per USDT transfer to an existing holder, about 13 TRX to a new one. Open the full-size diagram

If you hold USDT on TRON but no TRX, you cannot send that USDT: TRON burns TRX to pay for the energy a USDT transfer uses. The quickest fix is to buy a small amount of TRX with USDT you hold on another network โ€” Ethereum (ERC20) or BNB Chain (BEP20) โ€” and receive it at the same TRON address. In the swap widget that is one order. On 21 October 2026 the minimum was 1.1 USDT from Ethereum and 0.75 USDT from BNB Chain, and the TRX payout fee was 1 TRX (about $0.33).

How much TRX you actually need

With the TRON parameters of October 2026 (energy price 100 sun per unit), a USDT transfer to an address that already holds USDT uses about 64,000 energy, which burns about 6.4 TRX if you have no energy of your own. A transfer to an address that has never held USDT needs about 130,000 energy, about 13 TRX. Each transfer also uses about 345 bandwidth points; the first 600 points per day are free, after that about 0.35 TRX.

TRX to keep for USDT-TRC20 transfers (no staked energy, parameters of October 2026)
PlanTRX burnedTRX to buy (with margin)โ‰ˆ USD at $0.33
1 transfer to an existing USDT holderโ‰ˆ 6.4โ€“6.810$3.3
1 transfer to a new addressโ‰ˆ 13โ€“13.415$5
5 transfers, mixedโ‰ˆ 35โ€“4550$16.5
20 transfers a monthโ‰ˆ 130โ€“180200 (or stake)$66

The USDT TRC20 fee calculator recalculates this if the energy price changes; super representatives have lowered it before. If you send USDT every day, staking TRX for energy is cheaper than burning; for a few transfers, burning is simpler.

Which USDT to sell for TRX

USDT โ†’ TRX by source network (provider data, 21.10.2026)
You sendMinimumDeposit confirmationsYour send cost
USDT on Ethereum (ERC20)1.1 USDT6 (โ‰ˆ 1.2 min)ETH gas, often $0.5โ€“3
USDT on BNB Chain (BEP20)0.75 USDT60 (โ‰ˆ 1 min)BNB gas, a few cents

With such low minimums, the limiting factor on Ethereum is your gas: spending $2 of ETH gas to buy $3 of TRX is poor value. On BNB Chain the gas is negligible. If you have neither, ask whoever sent you the USDT on TRON to send a few TRX as well.

Steps

  1. Open the widget, choose USDT on Ethereum or BNB Chain to send and TRX to receive.
  2. Enter the amount: use the table above, e.g. 5โ€“10 USDT for a handful of transfers.
  3. Paste your TRON address (starts with T, 34 characters) โ€” the same address that holds your USDT-TRC20.
  4. Create the order and send USDT on the chosen network.
  5. After the confirmations the TRX payout arrives within a minute; TRON produces a block every 3 seconds.
  6. Now send your USDT-TRC20. Tronscan will show the energy consumed and TRX burned for that transfer.

A new TRON address is activated by the payout

A TRON address that has never received anything is not yet activated on chain. The first incoming TRX transfer activates it; the cost of activation is paid by the sender, here the swap payout. So you can use a brand-new TronLink or Trust Wallet address. What you cannot do on a never-activated address is send anything before it receives TRX.

Alternatives worth knowing

  • Energy rental. Third-party services delegate energy to your address for a fee. Compare their price per transfer with the ~6.4 TRX burn before paying; some offers are cheaper, some are not.
  • Staking. Freezing TRX under Stake 2.0 gives a daily energy allowance; unfreezing takes 14 days.
  • Avoid the problem next time. If you mostly receive USDT, choose a network where you already hold gas, or receive USDT-TRC20 only when you also keep TRX. See which network to choose for USDT.

Reading the result on Tronscan

After the TRX arrives and you send your USDT, open that USDT transaction on tronscan.org. The Resources Consumed block shows how the energy was paid: 'Burned TRX for energy' with a figure around 6.4 or 13 TRX means you paid by burning, as planned. If the transaction shows OUT_OF_ENERGY, the fee limit was too low or the balance ran short; the USDT did not move, but the TRX spent on the attempt is gone. Top up and send again with the wallet's default fee limit. If you see energy delegated from another address, a rental service or the wallet provider paid instead.

One more detail for exchange users: the TRX withdrawal fee on many exchanges is around 1 TRX, and some have a minimum withdrawal of 10 TRX or more. If your exchange account already holds TRX, withdrawing it directly can be simpler than a swap; if it holds only USDT on another network, the swap avoids a sell order and a withdrawal minimum.

FAQ

How much TRX do I need to send USDT on TRON?

About 6.4 TRX per transfer to an address that already holds USDT, about 13 TRX to a new one, at October 2026 parameters, if you have no energy.

What is the minimum to buy TRX with USDT?

1.1 USDT from Ethereum and 0.75 USDT from BNB Chain on 21 October 2026.

Can I receive TRX to a brand-new TRON address?

Yes. The incoming payout activates the address.

How much is the TRX payout fee?

1 TRX, about $0.33, included in the quote.

Is staking TRX better than buying for fees?

For daily transfers, yes. For a few a month, buying and burning is simpler. Unstaking takes 14 days.
