How to use the sats converter

Type an amount in satoshis, BTC or USD. The dollar value uses the live BTC price from our ticker when available; you can override it with any price — useful for “how many sats is $10 if bitcoin hits $100,000?”. The quick reference table below the converter shows common amounts from 1 sat to 1 BTC at the current price.

Bitcoin amounts can have at most eight decimals. If you type more, the converter warns you instead of silently rounding — a typo in the number of zeros is one of the most common ways people send the wrong amount.

Bitcoin's protocol stores every amount as a whole number of satoshis; “BTC” is just a display unit with the decimal point moved eight places.

Other bitcoin units you may see

Besides BTC and sats, a few other units appear in wallets and apps. A “bit” equals 100 sats (one millionth of a bitcoin, also written μBTC). An mBTC (millibitcoin) is 100,000 sats. On the Lightning Network, amounts are tracked internally in millisatoshis — one thousandth of a satoshi — because routing fees can be smaller than one sat; they are rounded to whole sats when settled on-chain. The unit is named after Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin. “Stacking sats” — buying small amounts regularly — became popular precisely because thinking in sats makes small purchases feel meaningful.

Why sats matter in practice

Network fees are quoted in sats per virtual byte (sat/vB). A typical single-input transaction is around 140–250 vB, so at 10 sat/vB it costs roughly 1,400–2,500 sats. Exchanges set minimum deposit and withdrawal amounts in BTC; converting them to sats and dollars helps you see whether a small transfer is worth the fee. Common sats conversions people search for

Some amounts come up again and again. 10,000 sats is 0.0001 BTC — a common minimum for small purchases and Lightning top-ups. 50,000 sats is 0.0005 BTC, 250,000 sats is 0.0025 BTC, and 5,000,000 sats is 0.05 BTC. Going the other way, 0.001 BTC is 100,000 sats, 0.005 BTC is 500,000 sats and 0.1 BTC is 10,000,000 sats. The dollar values change with the market, so use the converter for the current figure rather than a value you remember.

A quick mental trick: one million sats is always 0.01 BTC, so at a BTC price of $P the value of a million sats is P ÷ 100 dollars. At $65,000 that is $650; at $100,000 it would be $1,000.
