Crypto DCA Calculator + Free Excel Template

Dollar-cost averaging means buying a fixed dollar amount of a coin on a schedule — every week or every month — regardless of the price. This calculator simulates such a plan: how many coins you would accumulate, your average cost, the value at the last price and how it compares with investing the same money at once. Download the full schedule as an Excel or CSV file.

How to use the DCA calculator

Choose the coin, the amount per purchase, the number of purchases and how often you buy. The fee field covers the exchange or swap commission per purchase — small recurring buys often pay a higher percentage than one large order, so do not leave it at zero if your service charges it.

Then choose a price scenario. “Start → end price” spreads prices evenly between two values, which is useful for “what if Bitcoin goes from $60k to $90k over two years?” questions. “Paste price history” lets you paste real closing prices (for example weekly closes copied from a chart export) to back-test a plan on actual data. If you paste fewer prices than purchases, the last price is repeated.

What the results mean

Total invested is the sum of all purchases including fees. Coins accumulated is what those purchases bought after fees. Average cost is total invested divided by coins — your real break-even price for the whole plan. Value and P/L use the price of the last purchase.

The lump-sum line shows what would have happened if you had invested the same total amount at the very first price. In a steadily rising market, the lump sum usually wins because more money was exposed to the rise earlier. In a market that falls first and recovers later, DCA usually wins because the cheap purchases lower the average cost. DCA is not a way to beat the market; it is a way to remove the timing decision and the regret that comes with it.

coins_i = amount × (1 − fee) / price_i average cost = Σ amount / Σ coins_i value = Σ coins_i × last price P/L = value − Σ amount

Example: $100 a month into Bitcoin

Paste eight monthly prices — 60,000, 52,000, 48,000, 55,000, 63,000, 70,000, 68,000, 75,000 — with $100 per purchase and a 0.5% fee. You invest $800 and accumulate roughly 0.01324 BTC at an average cost of about $60,400, even though the price ended at $75,000. At the last price the stack is worth about $993. A single $800 purchase at the first price of $60,000 would be worth about $995 — practically the same. The cheap purchases in months two and three let DCA keep pace with the lump sum even though most coins were bought later at higher prices; had the market risen without that dip, the lump sum would have been clearly ahead.

Exporting the plan to Excel or CSV

The Excel button creates a real .xlsx file with one row per purchase: date, price, coins bought, running total of coins, money invested, average cost, value and profit. The CSV export contains the same columns and opens in Google Sheets, Numbers or LibreOffice. Use it to track the plan as you execute it — replace the simulated prices with your actual fills and the averages stay correct.

Practical DCA tips

Recurring buying is simple, but small details decide how much of the money actually ends up in coins.

  • Mind fixed costs: a $3 network fee on a $25 weekly purchase is a 12% handicap. Fewer, larger buys can be cheaper.
  • Keep the schedule boring — the whole point is not reacting to headlines.
  • Decide in advance what you do with the coins: hold on an exchange, or withdraw to your own wallet in batches to save on withdrawal fees.
  • Write down every purchase; you will need the dates and prices for cost-basis reporting later.
  • DCA works for selling too: taking profit in equal parts over several weeks smooths out the exit price.

Frequently asked questions

+Is DCA better than investing a lump sum?

Not always. Historically, in rising markets the lump sum tends to come out ahead because the money is invested longer. DCA reduces the risk of buying everything right before a drop and makes the plan easier to stick to. The calculator shows both results for your scenario.

+How often should I buy with DCA?

Weekly and monthly are the most common. More frequent buying smooths the average slightly but multiplies fixed costs. If each purchase has a fixed network or withdrawal fee, buying less often is usually cheaper.

+Can I use real historical prices?

Yes. Switch to “Paste price history” and paste one price per purchase in order. Commas, spaces and new lines all work as separators.

+How do I export the DCA schedule to Excel?

Press “Download Excel (.xlsx)”. The file is generated in your browser and contains every purchase with running totals. A CSV export is also available.

+Does the calculator account for fees?

Yes — the fee percentage is deducted from every purchase before coins are bought, so the average cost reflects what you really paid.

+Can I download the template for free without registration?

Yes. The Excel (.xlsx) file is a direct link on this page: no account, no e-mail and no payment. You can also use the online version above and export your own numbers.

Calculations run entirely in your browser; nothing you type is sent to KOT.CASH. Results are estimates for information only and are not financial, tax or legal advice.
