A named recipient has not necessarily received spendable XLM
Stellar separates creating a claimable balance from claiming it. The entry identifies eligible claimants and conditions. Its presence in a wallet panel does not establish that the displayed amount belongs to the account’s ordinary native balance. Read the asset as well: an entry for an issued asset is not native XLM.
This matters when preparing an XLM to ETH purchase from money somebody says they have already sent. Ask whether the record describes a regular payment or a claimable balance. A message from the sender and a screenshot of the pending entry answer neither the available-amount question nor the exchange-funding question.
A handover sheet for a pending Stellar receipt
| Record | Question it answers | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Claimable balance ID | Which ledger entry are we discussing? | A payment to the exchange |
| Claimant and predicate | Who may claim and under which condition? | That this account already claimed |
| Account receipt after a successful claim | Did the intended account receive the specified asset? | That an exchange was funded |
| Exchange funding transaction | Was the instructed XLM payment made? | That ETH has reached its recipient |
Resolve the pending receipt before relying on it
- Check the specific entry
Keep its ID, asset, claimant and current state together. A claimable balance can have a time condition; the claimant’s predicate must be satisfied for a successful claim. Do not turn a sender’s informal deadline into a guaranteed receipt time.
- Establish what reached the account
After an authorized claim through a trusted wallet, check the account’s actual native balance and operation result. The existence of a claim button or an attempted operation is insufficient. For an unfamiliar entry, investigate it rather than treating the panel as an instruction to interact.
- Prepare the exchange as a separate payment
Use the XLM amount the sender can actually pay, allowing for the sending account’s requirements. Obtain the current exchange instruction and your intended Ethereum receiving details. Do not paste a claimable balance ID into a payment reference field as though it identified the exchange deposit.
Describe the missing stage when asking for help
A useful enquiry says which account was meant to claim, which entry it concerns and what operation result was observed. Keep private credentials out of the message. If the question concerns a pending receipt, make that explicit; if XLM was later paid to an exchange, provide that separate payment record.
The Stellar documentation explains that claiming removes the entry. A disappeared entry therefore needs its operation history checked; disappearance alone is not proof that your account was the recipient. Reconcile that history before calculating an amount to sell or sending another payment.
Pending Stellar receipt questions
- Can I send a claimable balance ID as proof of exchange funding?
- No. It identifies an entry, not the separate XLM payment required by the exchange.
- Does every claimable balance contain XLM?
- No. Check the asset in the entry; an issued asset is different from native XLM.
- Does the entry disappearing prove my account received it?
- No. Check which operation consumed the entry and which account received the asset.
- Does a successful claim also purchase ETH?
- No. Receiving Stellar funds and funding an XLM to ETH exchange require separate records.
