First determine what “new wallet” means
Stellar’s account-creation guide says that generating a keypair does not itself create a ledger account. For a new recipient, check the account state rather than interpreting a receive QR code as proof that an ordinary payout can already be credited there. A wallet screen and the ledger answer different questions.
The guide describes both ordinary self-funded creation and sponsored reserves, including accounts created with a zero starting balance. Do not simplify the rule to “zero always means the account does not exist.” Conversely, do not assume that every zero shown by an interface belongs to a sponsored, ready account. Establish the actual state of your chosen receiver.
Resolve the first-receipt question before buying
- Identify the network and account you intend to use
Open the current wallet receive view and confirm the intended public-network account. Developer examples and test funding instructions do not provide a recipient for a real purchase. If the interface cannot show whether the account exists, clarify that state through its supported help process.
- Ask about creation if the account does not yet exist
Determine whether the offered payout process supports the required first-funding case. Stellar documents a CreateAccount operation for account creation; do not assume every process described as a payment creates a missing account automatically. This page does not promise that a particular exchange route performs that operation.
- Use current requirements rather than an old screenshot
Read the receiving wallet’s actual instruction and the live exchange limits. If a separate preparatory action is needed, resolve and verify it before relying on a purchase amount. Do not manually assemble an account-creation transaction from an unfamiliar tutorial just to make a receiving address appear ready.
Which state has actually been established?
| Observation | What is known | What still needs checking |
|---|---|---|
| A newly generated receive address | The wallet can display an identifier | Whether the public-network ledger account exists |
| An existing account with no visible native balance | The interface shows a zero figure | Actual account state and whether sponsorship applies |
| A non-existent ledger account | First creation is a separate requirement | Compatibility of the intended first-funding process |
| A payout has reached the account | A specific receiving event can be inspected | How the wallet calculates the spendable amount |
Reconcile receipt before interpreting the spendable figure
Stellar documentation explains minimum balances using a base reserve that validators can change, with account entries and sponsorship affecting the situation. A balance available for sending can therefore differ from the amount held. This page intentionally does not turn a current reserve setting into a permanent exchange minimum.
After payout, compare the receiving record with the quoted XLM result before subtracting a remembered reserve or reporting an apparent shortfall. If the account is managed by a platform, use that platform’s customer deposit instructions rather than treating its shared account as your personal new wallet. Keep the USDT funding reference separate from the XLM receipt and any earlier account-creation reference. For an unresolved status, identify which event is confirmed; do not make another purchase solely to test an assumption about the account.
Questions about a new Stellar recipient
- Does a receive QR code prove a Stellar account already exists?
- A displayed identifier is not enough. Verify the account state and the supported first-funding process before sending the exchange input.
- Does a zero balance always mean no account?
- Not by itself. Stellar supports reserve sponsorship, so inspect the actual ledger account and wallet context rather than inferring state from one number.
- Is the protocol reserve the exchange minimum?
- They are different requirements. Check the current account conditions and the offered exchange limits separately; a historical reserve screenshot does not define today’s order.
