Separate the transfer you must make from the ETH you will receive
A wallet can show a USDC balance while being unable to submit the intended token transfer. The token quantity answers how much USDC is held; the transaction preview answers how the outgoing action will be funded. On Ethereum, the network fee is denominated in ETH. When a wallet asks for that balance before sending USDC, pointing to the expected ETH payout does not satisfy the current request: the payout belongs to a later step.
Start with the actual source and its selected network. This page does not require every USDC transfer to use Ethereum, and it does not promise that changing to a cheaper network moves existing tokens there. Read where the USDC is currently held, which route the order accepts and what the sender requires to complete that route. A network selector cannot by itself move a balance between separate chains.
Three different arrangements can produce different fee screens
| Arrangement | What to inspect | What not to infer |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary Ethereum wallet transaction | ETH funding and the final transaction estimate | USDC balance alone is enough for every transaction |
| Hosted withdrawal | The serviceโs fee currency and recipient amount | Its fee screen is a universal Ethereum rule |
| An integrated paymaster | Explicit support in this wallet or application | Every USDC wallet already supports sponsorship |
Resolve the source funding question before paying
- Identify who submits the transaction
A personally controlled wallet and a hosted exchange account may expose different controls. Inspect the source application rather than applying instructions for another product. Circle Mint, for example, documents its own USDC transfer fee. That is evidence about Circle Mintโs withdrawal flow, not a fee schedule for your wallet or a receiving exchange.
- Check sponsorship rather than assuming it
Circleโs Paymaster is designed to let integrated applications pay gas using USDC. Its existence means that โevery user must always hold ETHโ is too broad. It also does not prove your application uses that product. Look for an explicit supported fee option in the actual sender. Do not approve an unfamiliar contract or transfer merely because a fee-free claim appears in a message.
- Review the full transfer after any change
If you change the amount, funding method or sending route, read the final recipient and USDC amount again. Keep the senderโs charge separate from the expected ETH output. When the sender cannot complete the payment, resolve that issue there before relying on a quote that assumes the deposit will arrive. No future payout should be treated as an already available source balance.
Funding the outgoing USDC transfer
- Can the ETH I will receive pay for sending my USDC first?
- Not as an already available balance. The source must be able to submit the USDC payment under its own funding arrangement. A later output does not automatically fund an earlier transaction.
- Does Circle Paymaster mean I can send USDC without ETH from any wallet?
- No. It is an integration for supported applications. Check your actual wallet or service for its fee method; this page does not claim KOT.CASH provides that integration.
