One address page and a wallet balance can cover different scopes
Cardano’s developer material describes a wallet as software that scans for unspent outputs at its addresses and computes a balance. A single address view is a narrower observation than a wallet view that includes several addresses. Do not expect the number on one address page to explain the entire account without checking what each interface includes.
The Yoroi FAQ explicitly distinguishes single-address and multi-address wallet behavior. It also describes cases where restoring a wallet in another interface changes how new addresses are generated. That is a wallet-specific explanation, not a claim that every Cardano application behaves alike. Check the actual mode used by the wallet receiving this payout.
Keep the original receiving record before comparing applications
- Retain the address issued for this receipt
- Copy the receiving details from the intended Cardano account and keep them with the exchange record. If the wallet later presents another address, do not overwrite the historical instruction. You need to know which address the particular ADA payout was supposed to use.
- Match the selected wallet account and its scope
- When two applications disagree, establish whether both display the same account and whether one is using a single-address view. Ask the wallet provider about address discovery through its supported process. Do not export a recovery phrase to an arbitrary comparison website.
- Use the relevant transaction to investigate receipt
- For an existing payout, compare the recipient in the transaction record with the saved receiving instruction. Then check whether the chosen wallet view includes that address. A newly shown receive address alone does not establish that the earlier payout used the wrong recipient.
Ask a different question of each view
| View | Question it can answer | Question needing another record |
|---|---|---|
| Saved receive instruction | Which address was requested for this purchase? | Did the payout actually use it? |
| Specific payout transaction | Which output was sent to the recorded recipient? | Does this wallet currently discover that recipient? |
| Single address observation | What does this address show at the observation point? | What is the total across every wallet address? |
| Wallet account overview | What does this application include in its account view? | Does a different application use the same discovery scope? |
Preserve receipt history even if the current address looks empty
A current balance and a historical credit answer different questions. Cardano uses unspent transaction outputs; after a later transaction, a receiving address’s current unspent balance need not reproduce its earlier receipt. Read the payout record and subsequent wallet activity rather than treating a zero balance at a later time as proof that nothing ever arrived.
Keep the ETH funding reference independent from the ADA receiving evidence. If the payout recipient differs from the saved instruction, report that discrepancy. If it matches but a wallet view excludes it, describe the scope issue to the wallet provider. Neither observation calls for another ETH payment to test whether the first purchase happened.
Questions about the Cardano receiving view
- Must every address page show my whole Cardano wallet balance?
- No. A single address observation and an application’s aggregate wallet view can cover different scopes. Establish what each one includes.
- Does a changed receive address prove an earlier payout went to someone else?
- No. Preserve the earlier instruction and compare the actual payout recipient. Wallet address-generation behavior needs its own explanation.
- Should I enter my recovery phrase on a website to discover missing addresses?
- Do not share recovery material. Use the legitimate wallet’s supported account and discovery workflow and discuss display differences with its provider.
