A normal Litecoin transaction costs a tiny fraction of a cent: fees are counted in litoshi (0.00000001 LTC) per virtual byte, exactly like Bitcoin, and on 21 October 2026 the Litecoin mempool clears at 1 litoshi per vB. A 141-vB payment therefore pays about 141 litoshi โ 0.00000141 LTC, well under a hundredth of a cent at LTC near $60. The part that confuses people is not the fee but MWEB, the optional privacy extension activated in 2022, which uses its own addresses starting with ltcmweb1. Many services do not accept or send to those addresses.
How Litecoin fees work
Litecoin is a Bitcoin fork with a 2.5-minute block target and four times Bitcoin's block capacity per unit of time. It supports SegWit (ltc1โฆ addresses), so the vB arithmetic is the same as on Bitcoin: transaction size depends on inputs and outputs, and the fee is size ร rate. Because blocks are rarely full, the minimum rate almost always confirms within the next block or two.
| Transaction | Size | Fee in LTC | โ USD |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 input โ 2 outputs, ltc1 (SegWit) | โ 141 vB | 0.00000141 | < $0.0001 |
| 3 inputs โ 2 outputs, SegWit | โ 277 vB | 0.00000277 | < $0.001 |
| Legacy Lโฆ address input | โ 226 vB | 0.00000226 | < $0.001 |
| Same at 10 litoshi/vB | โ 141 vB | 0.0000141 | โ $0.001 |
Some wallets still use older fixed defaults such as 0.0001 LTC per kB, which is ten litoshi per byte. That is still a fraction of a cent; there is no need to tune it for everyday payments.
Litecoin address types
- Lโฆ โ legacy (P2PKH). Works everywhere, slightly larger transactions.
- Mโฆ โ P2SH, often SegWit wrapped. Older wallets may show the equivalent 3โฆ format; Litecoin switched to M to avoid confusion with Bitcoin.
- ltc1qโฆ โ native SegWit. Cheapest standard address type, widely supported.
- ltcmweb1โฆ โ MWEB stealth address, used only inside the MWEB extension block.
The address validator checks the format and checksum of L, M and ltc1 addresses before you send.
What MWEB is
MimbleWimble Extension Blocks (MWEB) went live on Litecoin in May 2022 after years of development. Coins moved into MWEB (โpeg-inโ) live in an extension block alongside the main chain, where amounts are hidden and addresses are one-time outputs derived from the recipient's ltcmweb1 address. Moving out (โpeg-outโ) returns them to a normal ltc1 or L address. Using MWEB is entirely optional; ordinary Litecoin transactions are unaffected by it.
MWEB transactions have their own fee component based on the weight of MWEB inputs, outputs and kernels, and they are also cheap. Not every wallet supports them: Litecoin Core and some mobile wallets such as Cake Wallet do, while many others do not show MWEB balances at all.
MWEB and exchanges: the pitfalls
- An ltcmweb1 address pasted as a payout address may be rejected by the service's validator, or the service may not support sending into MWEB. If in doubt, use a regular ltc1 address for receiving.
- Withdrawing from MWEB to an exchange deposit requires a peg-out; check that your wallet shows the transaction as a normal output to the deposit address.
- Some exchanges in regulated markets restricted LTC after MWEB activated, and a few delisted it for that reason in 2022. Most major ones continued to support standard Litecoin transfers.
- Change and balance views differ between wallets: an MWEB balance may not appear in a wallet that only reads the main chain.
Litecoin on KOT.CASH
The swap provider accepts and pays out standard Litecoin on the LTC network and waits for 6 confirmations before crediting a deposit โ about 15 minutes at 2.5-minute blocks. Use an L, M or ltc1 address as the payout address. Popular routes: LTC to USDT and USDT to LTC; for LTC to BTC the minimum is about 0.16 LTC, and the payout network fee is included in the quote.
If you want to keep the payout private, receive it to a normal address first and decide afterwards what to do in your own wallet; KOT.CASH does not send into MWEB directly.
When a Litecoin fee is worth adjusting
Two situations justify touching the fee setting. The first is consolidation: a wallet holding hundreds of small receipts, for example from mining payouts or a shop, builds large transactions. At 1 litoshi per vB even a 30 kB consolidation costs about 0.0003 LTC, so the cheapest approach is to consolidate on a quiet day at the minimum rate. The second is a deadline: if a swap order is waiting for your deposit and Litecoin blocks happen to be full after a burst of activity, a rate of a few litoshi per vB puts you back at the front.
Litecoin Core and most wallets support Replace-By-Fee, so a low-fee transaction can be bumped later. Explorers such as litecoinspace.org show projected blocks and recommended rates in the same layout as Bitcoin explorers, which makes it easy to check before you send.
FAQ
How much is a Litecoin transaction fee?
Usually around 1 litoshi per vB, so a typical payment costs about 0.0000014 LTC โ a tiny fraction of a cent.
What is an ltcmweb1 address?
A MimbleWimble Extension Block (MWEB) address. Payments to it go into Litecoin's optional privacy extension.
Can I use an MWEB address with KOT.CASH?
Use a standard L, M or ltc1 address for payouts. The service does not send into MWEB directly.
How long does a Litecoin deposit take to confirm?
Blocks average 2.5 minutes; KOT.CASH's provider credits after 6 confirmations, about 15 minutes.
Is a 3โฆ address valid for Litecoin?
Old P2SH Litecoin addresses could start with 3, but the current format is M. Many wallets convert between them; check before sending.
