Moving from Ethereum to Solana is one of the most common rotations in crypto. People do it to use Solana apps, to pay lower transaction fees, to stake SOL, or simply to rebalance between two large smart-contract platforms. The two chains do not talk to each other directly, so โswapping ETH to SOLโ always means that someone โ an exchange, an instant swap service or a bridge โ takes your ETH on Ethereum and delivers SOL on Solana.
This guide explains the options, walks through an ETH โ SOL swap on an instant exchange without registration, and lists the mistakes that most often cost people money. If you are ready to go, the ETH to SOL exchange page has the live rate and the swap form.
Three ways to turn ETH into SOL
1. A centralized exchange. Deposit ETH, sell it for USDT or USD, buy SOL, withdraw SOL. It works, but it is four steps, two trading fees, a withdrawal fee, and an account with identity verification. Your coins also sit on the exchange while you trade.
2. A cross-chain bridge or aggregator. Bridges lock or burn a token on one chain and release a representation on another. Good bridges are fast, but you need a wallet on both chains, some SOL for fees on arrival, and you take on smart-contract risk. You may also receive a wrapped asset instead of native SOL if you pick the wrong route.
3. An instant swap service. You send ETH to a one-time deposit address and receive native SOL at your own Solana address. No account, no order book, one transaction from your side. This is how KOT.CASH works: the swap is routed through liquidity providers and the SOL goes straight to your wallet.
For most people who want native SOL in their own wallet with the fewest steps, option 3 is the simplest. Option 1 is better for large amounts where you want limit orders. Option 2 suits experienced DeFi users who are already active on both chains.
Before you start: what you need
You do not need SOL in advance to receive SOL. A brand-new Solana address becomes active as soon as it receives at least the rent-exempt minimum (a fraction of a SOL), which any normal swap amount covers.
Step by step: ETH to SOL on KOT.CASH
The whole process typically takes a few minutes to around half an hour, mostly spent waiting for Ethereum confirmations and the providerโs processing. Our confirmation time estimator shows typical Ethereum and Solana timings.
What it costs
There are three layers of cost in any ETH โ SOL swap:
| Cost | Who charges it | How to estimate it |
|---|---|---|
| Ethereum gas for your deposit | The Ethereum network | Gas used ร gas price โ see the [gas fee calculator](/tools/gas-fee-calculator) |
| Swap spread and service fee | The swap service | Shown in the quote before you confirm |
| Solana network fee for the payout | Solana network | Usually a tiny fraction of a cent, included in the quote |
A plain ETH transfer uses 21,000 gas. At 2 gwei that is 0.000042 ETH โ a few cents at typical prices. During busy periods gas can be many times higher, so if your amount is small, check gas before you send. Fees as a percentage hurt small swaps far more than large ones.
Common mistakes that lose money
Sending from the wrong network. ETH on Arbitrum, Optimism, Base or BNB Smart Chain is not ETH on Ethereum mainnet. If the deposit address is for Ethereum mainnet and you send from an L2, the funds arrive on a different chain where the service may not see them. Recovery, if possible, is slow and manual.
Pasting an Ethereum address as the Solana destination. It sounds obvious, but wallets that support both chains show two different addresses. Validate the format with our address validator if you are unsure โ it runs offline in your browser.
Sending a different amount than the order expects. Instant swaps lock a rate for a window of time. If you send much more or much less, or send after the window, the order may be recalculated at a new rate or refunded. Send the amount shown.
Expecting wrapped ETH to work like ETH. WETH is an ERC-20 token, not native ETH. If the service asks for ETH, send ETH.
Forgetting about SPL token accounts. If you later swap SOL into a Solana token such as USDC, your wallet needs a token account for it. Most wallets create it automatically and charge a small refundable deposit; it is not a scam fee.
ETH or SOL: why people rotate
Ethereum has the largest DeFi ecosystem, the most battle-tested smart contracts and a huge rollup ecosystem. Its base-layer transactions are relatively expensive and blocks come every 12 seconds, with economic finality after about 13 minutes. Solana is a single high-throughput chain with sub-second slots and fees usually far below a cent, which makes it popular for trading, payments and consumer apps.
Neither is โbetterโ in general โ they make different trade-offs. Rotating between them is a bet on activity and price, so treat it like any other trade: decide the size in advance, consider taking part of the move with a take-profit ladder, and track the result in a portfolio tracker.
Taxes and record-keeping
In many countries, swapping one cryptocurrency for another is a taxable disposal โ you realize a gain or loss on the ETH at the moment of the swap, valued in your local currency. Keep the order ID, the Ethereum transaction hash, the Solana payout hash and the value of the ETH at that time. The crypto tax lot calculator helps match the ETH you sold to the ETH you bought earlier using FIFO, LIFO or HIFO.
Going back: SOL to ETH
The reverse route works the same way: send SOL from your Solana wallet to the deposit address and receive ETH on Ethereum. Remember that receiving ETH on Ethereum does not require any ETH in advance, but spending it later will โ so leave the received ETH untouched until you know your next step, or receive slightly more than you need to cover future gas. The SOL to ETH page has the form.
Quick checklist
That is all there is to it. With the right network and the right address, an ETH โ SOL swap is one transaction from your side and the coins land in a wallet only you control.
