Bitcoin Cash in a protocol name is not the coin you receive
A search for Tether and Bitcoin Cash can lead to old instructions for USDT on the SLP protocol. That is a different question from exchanging a supported USDT balance for native BCH. Tether now lists Bitcoin Cash SLP among historical protocols for which it no longer issues tokens or has a redemption obligation. An old deposit guide is therefore a poor basis for selecting a new sending route.
Start with the network shown by the account holding your USDT. Then compare it with the network available in the exchange form. The BCH destination describes the asset you want to receive; it does not determine which USDT network can fund the exchange. If the sending platform does not offer the matching withdrawal option, stop and resolve that mismatch before sending anything.
Read three labels before copying an address
| Label in the process | What it establishes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| USDT withdrawal network | The chain carrying the outgoing tokens | That a similarly named historical protocol remains supported |
| Exchange deposit instruction | The destination and network for funding this particular exchange | An address for receiving your BCH payout |
| BCH receiving instruction | Where the purchased native Bitcoin Cash should arrive | Permission to send USDT to that address |
Check the receiving wallet as a BCH destination
- Open the intended Bitcoin Cash account
- Use its receive function and read the asset name in full. A wallet may display several related tickers or multiple accounts. Copying the first visible cryptocurrency address without opening the BCH receiving screen leaves the most important selection unverified.
- Preserve the format supplied by the destination
- CashAddr defines a network prefix, a separator and an encoded payload with a checksum. The specification permits displaying an address without the explicit prefix. This explains a possible difference in appearance; it is not a reason to manually rewrite an address until an exchange accepts it. Resolve an incompatible format with the receiving service first.
- Compare the result after pasting
- Check the pasted destination against the wallet instruction, rather than trusting clipboard history. If BCH is going to a custodial account, also read that accountโs current deposit conditions. A network address alone does not describe every rule the destination applies to crediting funds.
Questions about buying BCH with USDT
- Do I need USDT on Bitcoin Cash SLP to receive BCH?
- No. The source network and the payout asset are separate selections in a cross-asset exchange. Use only the USDT funding network currently offered for your route. Do not choose a historical Tether protocol merely because its name contains Bitcoin Cash.
- Can I reuse a saved USDT deposit address for the next purchase?
- Do not assume a saved instruction applies to a new exchange. Review the newly displayed destination, asset, network and amount requirements. If you have already sent funds to an older instruction, keep the transaction reference and ask support about that specific transfer instead of sending a second payment as a test.
