Which Uniswap-related holding is on the screen?
| Displayed item | What it describes | Can its number be used as the UNI input? |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary UNI token balance | The governance token held by the account | Only the verified available UNI amount |
| Uniswap v3 position NFT | A particular liquidity position | No: a position identifier is not a UNI quantity |
| Uncollected position fees | Accrued amounts in the position’s tokens | Not until the actual tokens and receipt are established |
| Position value in dollars | A portfolio valuation | No: dollars and token units are different quantities |
Do not assume every Uniswap receipt is UNI
- Read the position’s actual token pair
- A position relates to its specified assets. The Uniswap name on the interface does not imply that the position holds the UNI governance token. Record the token identities and network before describing any eventual proceeds as UNI available for exchange.
- Separate collecting fees from changing liquidity
- Uniswap’s v3 guides document fee collection separately from adding or removing liquidity. A message that someone collected fees does not establish that they exited the position or received its full displayed value. Ask which operation completed and what assets actually reached the account.
- Use the wallet’s received token quantity
- If UNI proceeds are expected, establish the account’s actual UNI receipt and availability before entering the exchange amount. Do not add a position valuation, a position NFT identifier or an uncollected-fee estimate to an ordinary token balance.
A fictional portfolio can have Uniswap exposure and little UNI to sell
Imagine a wallet with 5 UNI plus a Uniswap v3 position whose assets are two other tokens. The position screen shows a dollar value and accrued fees. Those displays do not increase the wallet’s UNI balance from 5 to the portfolio’s combined value. The example illustrates units and asset identity, not an investment return or a suggested liquidity strategy.
The UNI token reference identifies UNI as the protocol’s governance token. The v3 fee-collection documentation instead describes a liquidity position identified through its NFT. These records belong to the same ecosystem but answer different ownership questions. If a colleague asks you to sell our Uniswap holdings, clarify which holding they mean before preparing a payment or changing a position.
Turn the clarified request into a verifiable exchange payment
- Confirm what the owner wants to exchange
Write down the actual token and available amount. A request to collect fees, remove liquidity or sell UNI needs a different scope of authorization. Do not treat a broadly worded portfolio request as permission for all three actions.
- Resolve any position operation first
If the owner separately chooses a position operation, use its trusted interface and verify the resulting assets in the intended wallet. An operation preview or submitted request does not establish the final token receipt. Keep its reference distinct from a later exchange payment.
- Prepare only the actual UNI payment
Read the current UNI funding instruction and ETH receiving details. Review the outgoing token transfer and sending costs in the wallet. Retain the real payment reference so that a question about exchange processing is not answered with an unrelated position NFT or fee-collection screenshot.
UNI and liquidity position questions
- Is a Uniswap v3 position NFT a quantity of UNI?
- No. It identifies a liquidity position, while UNI is a separate governance token.
- Does collecting fees necessarily close a v3 position?
- No. The v3 guides describe fee collection and liquidity changes separately.
- Can I enter my position’s dollar value as the UNI amount?
- No. Verify the actual transferable UNI quantity in the sending wallet.
- Does using Uniswap mean my position contains UNI?
- No. Read the specific assets in that position instead of inferring them from the interface brand.
