A wallet, an account and a contract are different things
| Item on screen | What it represents | Useful question before exchanging SOL |
|---|---|---|
| Wallet application | The software used to manage accounts | Which account is selected in its receive screen? |
| User account address | The intended account for holding and using tez | Does the payout instruction match the account you control? |
| KT1 contract address | A Tezos smart contract | Does this destination accept the intended payment and does the exchange support it? |
| A token or collectible page | Information about an asset or application | Are you copying an account receive instruction or an unrelated contract reference? |
Do not take a receiving address from a token information panel
Tezos documentation identifies smart contracts by the KT1 prefix and distinguishes them from user accounts. A wallet can show contract references when you inspect tokens or applications. That does not mean the displayed contract belongs to your receiving account or is suitable for an XTZ payout. Return to the account’s receive screen instead of using a reference copied from asset details.
If you deliberately intend to receive through a contract, establish its receiving behaviour and the exchange route’s support before paying SOL. This page does not certify contract destinations or promise that the payout form supports every address type described by the Tezos protocol. An error in the destination field is a reason to investigate the instruction, not to change the prefix until validation succeeds.
Confirm access to the account you plan to fund
- Identify the selected account, not only the wallet brand
- A wallet can manage more than one account. Check the name and receive address of the one you intend to use for this purchase. If a browser extension and a mobile wallet show different destinations, resolve which account each is displaying before deciding where the XTZ should arrive.
- Know how you retain access
- Tezos wallet documentation separates account backup information from the password used to open a wallet. Review your own wallet’s backup process privately before relying on it to hold funds. Do not enter a recovery phrase into an exchange address field or send it to someone offering to verify your destination.
- Keep the Solana payment separate
- The outgoing SOL funds the exchange according to its Solana deposit details. The Tezos account is the receiving side of a different payment. When reviewing the exchange, compare both destinations in their own roles, then keep the outgoing transaction reference and exchange reference for checking progress.
Choosing an XTZ receiving destination
- Can I use a KT1 address just because it appears in my wallet?
- First determine what the address represents. It may be a contract shown in asset information rather than your account’s receiving destination. A deliberately selected contract also needs a receiving-behaviour and route-support check. Do not assume that appearing in a wallet proves suitability for an exchange payout.
- Will installing the same wallet application show my existing XTZ account?
- The application name alone does not identify the account. Use the wallet’s documented account access or recovery process privately, then compare the receive address. A newly created account can be different from the one you intended to fund. Never provide backup secrets to the exchange as proof of ownership.
